State of Massachusetts Senior Category Manager in Boston, Massachusetts

Using your strong communication, analytical, and category portfolio management talent, to drive growth across multiple portfolios that currently exceed $2.2 billion in purchases generating more than 20 million dollars in annual revenue, we seek a dynamic individual to manage various categories with a focus on exceeding customer expectations. You would be expected to use your knowledge of category management to drive year-over-year growth and to guide the advancement of various categories to ensure that we have anticipated the future needs of our customers through research, vendor relationship management, and trend analysis that will drive year-over-year growth. In this role, you will work closely with our buying and vendor customers to incorporate key government initiatives like positive climate change into the appropriate portfolios. You will develop innovative sourcing and procurement strategies and approaches to provide strong and flexible contracts that deliver the best value. Working closely with the Deputy Director of Strategic Sourcing, your fellow Senior Category Manager, and our customers, you will play a pivotal role in developing procurement and vendor management strategies and processes. Key Responsibilities: · Leadership and Team Management: o Lead, mentor, and develop a team of category managers. o Set performance goals and conduct regular evaluations. o Foster an innovative collaborative and high-performance work environment. · Strategic Planning: o Develop and implement long-term strategies for a variety of categories. o Analyze market trends and consumer insights to identify opportunities and risks. o Collaborate with senior management to align category strategies with overall business goals. o Anticipate future customer needs and provide products and services that meet those needs before and during actual purchase. · Category Management: o Oversee the pricing, promotion, and portfolio offerings for various categories. o Ensure optimal product and service availability to meet customer needs. o Develop exit strategies for underperforming offerings to customers. o Ensure alignment with industry trends and market standards. · Vendor and Stakeholder Relations: o Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and industries within each portfolio. o Negotiate contracts and terms to achieve the best value. o Coordinate with marketing, sales, and supply chain teams to ensure category success and growth. · Performance Monitoring: o Track and analyze category performance metrics. o Implement corrective actions to address any performance issues. o Prepare and present regular performance reports to senior management. o Lead the development and implementation of category management teams that consistently exceed annual category goals and objectives. Qualifications: · Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field. · Proven experience in category management or a similar role. · Strong leadership and team management skills. · Excellent analytical and strategic planning abilities. · Effective communication and negotiation skills. · Proficiency in data analysis and market research tools. Preferred Skills: * Knowledge of supply chain and inventory management. * Familiarity with marketing and sales principles. * Public Procurement Experience. * The ability to manage multiple projects and tasks within defined timelines. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 tools, particularly Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. * Proficiency with Word, Excel spreadsheets, Access, or other internet databases, and other electronic communications. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) six (6) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management of which (B) at least two (2) years must have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required (A) experience. II. A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required (A) experience. III. A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required (A) experience. IV.
