Nonprofit Finance Fund Senior Associate, Knowledge & Communications - Boston, MA in Boston, Massachusetts

The COVID crisis and the uprising for racial justice have shone national light on both the urgent work required to build a more just and vibrant society for all Americans and the potential for positive action when our communities mobilize. We have also celebrated the ?heroes?, who primarily work in nonprofits delivering essential services like affordable housing, social justice advocacy, health, youth development, to the arts. Yet these nonprofits continue to rely on a flawed, inequitable funding system that often impedes their ability to make a difference. Nonprofit Finance Fund is setting out to change that. We are a nonprofit lender, consultant, and advocate with 40 years of experience committed to reforming the nonprofit funding system. We know that financial knowledge and access to appropriate lending products are power for nonprofit leaders. We are now evolving our strategy to focus on helping to shift funding and financing practices so more money flows equitably and with less restriction to community-centered organizations led by and/or serving people of color.

Position Summary:

The Senior Associate, Knowledge and Communications (K&C) will be a critical part of a fast-moving, highly collaborative team that develops, designs, edits, and disseminates content to promote Nonprofit Finance Fund?s (NFF) work toward creating a valued, responsive, and equitable social sector and further the organization?s position as a leading nonprofit community development financial institution, consultant, and thought leader.

A person will be successful in this role if they are a consummate storyteller, use impeccable grammar, and can write quickly, clearly, and concisely in a range of formats and tones. They will be able to find the stories that need to be told, liaise with the people who hold key information, and turn around content that accurately reflects NFF?s expertise. We?re looking for someone who is flexible, creative, detail-oriented, and thoughtful ? someone who is comfortable jumping in with both feet and offering thoughts and feedback. A person who loves to learn and likes to laugh will enjoy working with the rest of the K&C team.

The ideal candidate embodies NFF?s values and proactively builds strong, collaborative relationships across K&C and wider NFF teams.

NFF is headquartered in New York with additional offices in Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Oakland. Applicants located within or near these cities will be based in one of our offices once staff resume working in person. Applicants outside NFF?s geographic footprint will work remotely with occasional travel to NFF headquarters and other regional sites. The Senior Associate will report to the Manager, Knowledge & Communications, who is based in Oakland.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, research, and produce stories and blogs that advance NFF?s business and mission objectives

  • Write, edit, and proofread written content to be distributed across NFF?s communication platforms

  • Manage NFF?s social media channels and maintain an editorial calendar that connects content to NFF?s larger digital strategy, elevating NFF?s positions and publications

  • Monitor client and peer social media accounts to help amplify successes and experiences and promote industry-relevant news and reports

  • Gather content across departments and write a quarterly e-newsletter

  • Project manage cross-departmental projects and initiatives that require production and distribution of communication components

  • Assist with the development of multimedia assets, as needed

  • Support K&C?s operational needs such as posting content on website, updating internal staff resources, and responding to ad hoc requests for marketing materials

  • Provide administrative and event support as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Requirements for Education and/or Experience:

  • A strong sense of storytelling and proven ability to write compellingly/accessibly in different tones (formal and informal) and formats (e.g., blogs, web stories, reports, press releases, op-eds, social media content, talking points) with clarity, excellent grammar, and attention to detail

  • Professional experience managing social media accounts for an organization, company, or brand

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and social listening/posting tools (e.g., TweetDeck, Hootsuite, Buffer)

  • Knowledge of email marketing platforms and best practices

  • Ability to work enthusiastically and productively within a highly collaborative team as well as independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple projects, timelines, and deadlines

  • Strong project management and organizational skills

  • Comfortable and effective working across teams and with people at different levels of seniority

  • Ready to adopt current organizational systems and technologies (such as Asana, Salesforce, etc.)

Specialized Knowledge/Beneficial Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the nonprofit and/or financial sectors

  • Communications experience with community organizing efforts or in grassroots organizations

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere)

  • Video production/editing experience

  • Graphic design experience

  • Experience with Google Analytics

  • Working knowledge of content management systems, such as Drupal

  • Knowledge of HTML

  • Complete an application and an initial questionnaire in lieu of submitting a cover letter and resume

  • NFF?s Talent and Organizational Effectiveness (T&OE) team will contact you for a first-round phone interview

  • Share writing samples and may be asked to respond to a second, brief questionnaire with some follow-up questions

  • Meet the Hiring Manager in a second-round phone interview

  • Complete a timed writing exercise

  • Meet the rest of the team in a few multi-group phone interviews

  • Finalists will participate in one last interview with Hiring Manager via video conference (*due to COVID-19, we will be conducting all interviews remotely for the near future)

  • Final candidate will then submit a resume and background and reference checks will get initiated

  • T&OE will extend an offer pending background and reference checks


At NFF, we are invested in discussing the depth and breadth of each candidate?s background and experience during the interview process and using that information to determine the best offer. The salary range for this position begins at $ $69,000. NFF also provides an attractive benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement plan, paid time off, standard holidays, and commuter benefits.
