Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Manager

The Team

MassMutual’s search and social team is responsible for paid and organic campaigns across the brand and all lines of business, reporting into the brand and customer activation. Cross functional by nature, the search and social team collaborates with multiple stakeholders, planning and executing various strategies and campaigns to deliver business results. All digital media is run by an in-house team of experts, and we’re constantly growing and evolving to meet the needs of our partners.

The Impact

As a Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Manager, you will implement paid search, GDN & Discovery Ad strategies and tactics across all MassMutual lines of business. You will assist the SEM Manager directly contribute to business goals of increasing brand awareness, driving traffic, engagement, and leads/sales.

You will:

  • Research and optimize Keywords

  • Develop search traffic estimates which will inform campaign budgets and set performance expectations

  • Write/Edit/Optimize copy and landing pages for SEM, GDN and Discovery ad campaigns and route to compliance/legal

  • Curate, QA and maintain campaign tracking/conversion pixels

  • Diligently QA/audit campaigns pre-and-post activation

  • Effectively manage campaign expenses by staying on budget, appropriately forecasting monthly/quarterly/annual costs, and reconciling any discrepancies that may arise

  • Build and interpret campaign reports

  • Analyze search traffic results and trends, monitor results, and optimize campaigns based on those results

  • Develop and execute SEM testing plans, including but not limited to landing page testing (CRO)

  • Research and evaluate competitor advertising via SEMRush

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of proven SEM experience and success managing PPC campaigns across Google, Bing, and Yahoo in a client setting and or/an agency

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Proficiency with Search Ads 360, Google Ads, and Microsoft Ads

  • Experience with A/B split testing

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills is required

  • Intermediate knowledge of digital analytics, including running reports using a digital analytics tool like Google Analytics

  • Exceptional research and analytic skills

  • Continually current on trends and best search engine marketing practices

  • Advanced MS Office proficiency, particularly in MS Excel

  • Able to participate in cross-functional projects, and across multiple lines of business

  • Self-motivated and flexible, able to manage multiple priorities at once with a great attitude

  • Ability to thrive amidst changing priorities

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Great attention to detail

  • Ability to work in the Boston office in a hybrid model

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous digital content writing experience preferred

  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

  • Experience working for agencies or Financial services

  • Experience working with Google Experiments


  • This position will be based out of the Boston office, with a hybrid return to office targeted for 2022

Salary: $70-75K (commensurate with experience), plus bonus eligibility
