Research Strategist(State Street Bank and Trust Company; Boston, MA): The Research Strategist provides investment research and competitive product positioning, in written form, as well as verbally, along with our sales teams within State Street Global Advisors’ Global SPDR Business. The Research Strategist helps to identify opportunities that exist within the market that can be exploited with SPDR ETFs and SSgA Funds. The Strategist leverages the expertise of our equity, fixed income, and investment solutions group portfolio management teams and augments that with their own proprietary research. Strategists continually assess and analyze the financial markets and the competitive landscape to provide research and perspectives to clients and prospects. With the inclusion of strong investment merits, the individual’s work is used to enhance the product positioning of ETFs and mutual funds by delivering this in verbal and written form. Strategists generate world-class investment content for the breadth of advisors, by developing whitepapers and other collateral that help educate our clients and promote strategically important ETFs and mutual funds. In order to succeed, it is imperative that the individual develop and sustain strong working partnerships with our marketing, product and investment teams. In addition, the individual serves as a resource to offer perspective on financial markets to all parts of the Global SPDR Business. The Strategist has client-facing opportunities across distribution channels, including home offices and international clients, to promote their work. The Strategist must have strong communications skills for frequent external and internal presentations. They must be able to clearly articulate investment processes and provide ongoing updates on product positioning with an eye toward the competitive landscape. Specific duties of the position include: developing whitepapers and other collateral that will help educate our clients and promote strategically important Exchange Traded Funds and mutual funds; analyzing large sets of data to interpret market movements, and crafting applicable investment themes that align with the investment capabilities of the SPDR Business; developing and sustaining strong working partnerships with the SSGA marketing, product, and investment teams; serving as a resource to offer perspective on all parts of the SPDR business; and pursuing client-facing opportunities across distribution channels, including home offices and international clients, to promote his or her work. The position requires availability for domestic travel up to 15% of the time for client meetings.

Minimum requirements are: Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field, or its equivalent, plus 4 years of investment experience.

Must have: client facing experience with international clients; demonstrated xperience performing research on active, smart beta, and quantitative plus fundamental sector strategies; published author on white papers or articles related to investment management and strategies; demonstrated knowledge and use of each of these systems: Barclays POINT, Bloomberg, FactSet and Morningstar Direct; demonstrated knowledge of all asset classes and portfolio construction; demonstrated deep understanding of financial theory and empirical research, including statistical modeling; demonstrated solid communications skills; demonstrated in-depth knowledge of ETFs and mutual funds, and other investment tools including derivatives; demonstrated ability to work with and influence internal and external stakeholders; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on a team; and highly developed multi-tasking and prioritization skills with strong self-motivation (Unless indicated otherwise, State Street is seeking the ability in the skills listed above with no specific amount of years of experience required.
