Boston University RENTAL SALES MANAGER, WBUR Business Partnerships in BOSTON, Massachusetts

WBUR's Business Partnerships team is seeking an energetic and creative Rental Sales Manager for its CitySpace Productions team. The Business Partnerships team is responsible for building its portfolio of revenue generating partnerships and the Rental Sales Manager is a key stakeholder in generating revenue to support WBUR's mission. The ideal candidate is smart, ambitious, and thinks quick on their feet, has previous experience selling and executing high-value venue or event packages. The right candidate will have a track record of successful sales and execution of corporate, social, or non-profit events. Working in partnership with the Technical Operations Team and the Executive Director, Business Partnerships, the Rental Sales Manager will play an important role in executing our new go-to-market strategy for CitySpace as a top of the line rental venue in the Greater Boston area. As WBUR pivots to leverage and monetize its full portfolio of assets, the conscientious & thoughtful opening of our venue, CitySpace, to the events rental market is vital to driving overall revenue and elevating the overall brand of the organization. This role will report into WBURs Executive Director, Business Development. This role is based in Boston, MA.

Key characteristics: Organized and efficient, thinks well on their feet and client-first approach to sales and execution. The ideal candidate will also be comfortable creatively designing custom projects for multiple industry partners. This person will also have a key understanding of the logistics and operations needs for a highly-produced event and will be able to build trust and collaboration with the internal technical team. This candidate will be able to demonstrate a commitment to building an inclusive roster of partners and solutions and engaging diverse viewpoints to meet the needs of both our partners and our audience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Rental Sales Manager is charged with driving revenue at CitySpace across two areas:

  • Venue rentals for private events

  • Production of custom event programming

  • Call on prospects to solicit business and respond to inbound requests, qualify function space requirements, determine support services needed, facilitate site visits, prepare estimates and contracts

  • Assist in upkeep and maintenance of rental sales and marketing materials

  • Manage and maintain detailed account, contact, revenue reporting, and event booking details

  • Prepare and implement action plans to secure new business.

  • Host & attend industry and other networking events to provide maximum exposure for CitySpace.

  • Work with rental clients to ensure their event plans meet CitySpace guidelines & policies including:

  • Client plans for catering, entertainment, decorations, and other aspects of the rental

  • Coordinate with external vendors as necessary to ensure timely delivery and pickup times. And policies and procedures of CitySpace

  • Communicate and coordinate with the Technical Operations team in planning and executing event requirements

  • Manage paperwork for and ensure proper communication of planning such as catering orders, floorplans, timelines, signage, inquiry tracking, rental equipment orders, post-event evaluation, production reports, and follow-ups with clients

  • Assist with set up and break down as necessary including moving, lifting, storing, chairs, tables, and related items

  • Working in partnership with the Business Development Marketing Manager, ideate and develop proposals for custom event options aligning with client needs, goals, and editorial themes.

  • With WBUR marketing and underwriting sales teams, identify and sell integrated rental & custom offerings as part of larger media relationships

  • Execute logistical needs & liaise with technical operations for CitySpace Productions custom event experiences

  • Accurately and consistently forecast revenue in partnership with sales leadership and finance

  • Foster an environment of openness and collaboration

Required Skills

  • 5 years experience selling rentals, conferences, catering or sponsorships to high profile clients including custom proposal development & building and managing sales pipelines

  • Ability to build strong relationships both internally across the organization, as well as externally with clients and third-party vendors & events teams

  • Reputation for being highly organized

  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects at once

  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds, negotiate stairs and stand for extended periods of time

  • Bachelor degree required or equivalent experience
