What You'll Do Here:

The US Product Marketing Manager is a leadership role within our National Geographic Learning US sales and marketing team with a focus on product launch campaigns, rep training, customer events and conferences. As the brand ambassador for the US market, you will be responsible for creating and implementing effective marketing strategies as well as enabling the sales team with tools to help them win business and increase market share. While the primary responsibility is within the higher education, adult education, and private language school segments, the position is also responsible for liaising with the K12 sales and marketing team as well as other sales teams within Cengage to ensure that ELT product is achieving sales targets outside of our core markets.


  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of the product line, digital platforms and the US market

  • Works closely with the Global Product Marketing Managers to develop effective sales strategies including messaging and positioning for front and key back list product

  • Implements local campaigns including email campaigns, webinars, conference presentations for global product, including creating of tools needed to achieve sales goals

  • Supports a strategic selling approach by working directly with key accounts and being a key member of the team developing proposals and presentations to win new business at key accounts

  • Develops, writes, and executes marketing plans for adult education products, including the creation of tools needed for successful outcomes (e.g.; Website, promotional items, training materials, catalog, e-marketing, sales tools, etc.)

  • Plans and executes one national customer event and assist the sales team in planning and executing local customer events

  • Plans and manages the conference strategy

  • Creates product information, which includes marketing message and copy, sales forecasting, and sales kit

  • Develops competitive knowledge to help shape product positioning and product development, leading to increased market share

  • Conducts product training and presentations, for staff and customers, using face to face, or virtual formats

  • Works with authors, sales and marketing teams to schedule author activities in support of products

  • Interacts with customers to gain first-hand experience with customer needs, and support sales

  • Collects and analyzes market feedback which can include but not be limited to peer reviews, surveys, events, focus groups, and customer visits to determine effective product messaging, sales messaging, for products in development and in use

  • Utilizes in-house systems (Magellan, IPS, Data Warehouse, ORCA) to perform various marketing tasks (inventory management, sales figures, product information, account database inquiries, etc.)

  • Travel required (event marketing, sales meetings, and in support of marketing initiatives)

  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet department goals

Skills You Will Need Here:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Minimum of two-years marketing experience required, preferably in publishing or educational field

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, and includes the need to be able to work effectively with other departments within the organization

  • Strong presentation skills, including experience creating presentations

  • Must display initiative and flexibility, be detail oriented, and must effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously

  • The role requires thinking strategically as well as tactically, and must be able to successfully prioritize tasks in order to ensure that the US team achieves their objectives

  • Knowledge of commonly-used digital platforms is required, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Microsoft Outlook

  • Field or sales experience desirable

  • Experience in English Language Teaching (ELT)/English as Second Language (ESL) desirable

  • Experience developing procedures and owning a process end-to-end preferred

  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) experience preferred
