Thermo Fisher Scientific Product Manager - IES - Lab Automation in Boston, Massachusetts

The Product Manager role within Informatics and Lab Automation is a key position focused on the success of one or more product lines. A Product Manager is responsible for all requirement definitions required by their market sector(s). They will work closely with the Product Strategists to determine the strategic positioning and direction of the product lines they are responsible for.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion product within Informatics and externally to customer base.

  • Understand the organization’s unique ability to deliver value to the customer and how this can drive differentiated offerings.

  • Maintain vigilance over product’s user and purchasing community. Gather and prioritize key needs and current pains/problems/inefficiencies.

  • Solve key problems using distinctive competence and creativity.

  • Collaborate with Development to investigate different technologies (both inside and outside the company) and consider how they might be applied to solve a given market problem.

  • Identify product’s competitors. Review their niche, approach and success in the market. Assess their strengths and weaknesses.

  • Understand current product performance including product profitability, actual to planned revenue, customer satisfaction, and market share . Define and maintain plan for improving on key performance metrics.

  • Perform periodic analysis on available CAS data and prioritize specific requirements/fixes for ensuring customer loyalty.

  • Establish a pricing model, schedules, guidelines and procedures. Annually provide suggested change in pricing within given corporate expectations.

  • Author business case as specified by the QMS to illuminate the cost and associated benefits of a proposed project.

  • Describe the product by what we will do for the market, not by listing the technical features. Provide positioning information to the Marketing Communications group.

  • Maintain product section on sales portal.

  • Create a requirements document as specified by QMS that communicates to development who we are building for and what problems we will be solving.

  • Create product roadmaps illustrating the vision for the product.

  • Understand and describe both applicable User and Buyer personas.

  • Write scenarios for user personas to describe instances of market problems or situations that illustrate why a product requirement is necessary.

  • Participate in review the release plan at periodic checkpoints and report significant updates to each of the operational groups.

  • Design and deliver training programs to educate sales and technical staff.

  • Write or solicit authoritative reports to review the issues and educate the market on solutions for the product’s market.

  • Produce a short write-up based on information available of the competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, sales tactics, pricing, and the “silver bullets” needed to beat them.

  • Assist in developing standard product presentations that can be used by the sales team in a typical sales process.

  • Collaborate on applicable sales playbooks as they pertain to your product.

  • Deliver product information to qualified prospects and customers in support of existing sales efforts at the request of the account managers.

  • Answer escalated technical questions from support, sales, and external.

  • Other duties as seen fit.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years experience in domain.

  • At least 5 years relevant product work experience including product management, product implementation, development, and support.

  • Experienced with the product line or similar competitive products.

  • Ability to connect with customer base, identify business issues, and devise innovative solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Outstanding presentation skills, including the ability to sell your vision.

  • High degree of personal initiative and self management.

  • Sufficient technical knowledge to be credible with customers and Development.

  • Bachelors degree or higher in marketing, business or scientific discipline.
