Product Managers are accountable for the performance of their portfolios. They understand market conditions and trends, inform the strategic vision and plans for their portfolios, and are responsible for maximizing the value of their product lines to the customer. Through market analysis, Product Managers identify growth opportunities, benchmark competition, and evaluate progress toward digital transformation. Product Managers are expected to be the market expert in their assigned product line, the competitive landscape, and how the product line can evolve to fully meet the needs of end users. This position reports to the Product Director.
What You'll Do Here:
Develop thorough understanding of the Advanced Placement market for Math and Science disciplines. Identify, analyze, understand, and size market segments and sub-segments to determine priority areas for investment. Build the business case for new product investments and technology enhancements.
Closely follow the actions of The College Board related to testing strategy/format of the AP exams to ensure that Science and Math programs are aligned to the content of the test. Develop an annual capital investment recommendation for assigned disciplines based on an understanding of market opportunity. Prioritize course areas in which additional investment in deeper content adaptations will drive greater revenue growth.
Create product development plan for Advanced Placement courses. Work with internal content development resources and external subject matter experts to ensure that program revisions are completed on time and on budget. Collaborate with Higher Education production organization on program plans to ensure that Advanced Placement needs are met.
Understand essential aspects of learning design with emphasis on digital learning solutions that address customer workflow and learning challenges. Monitor the changing digital needs and expectations of teachers and students and inform product and technology development.
Anticipate discipline and industry trends with a focus on digital learning solutions grounded in market knowledge gained through data-driven market research. Test new product ideas within segments, including the administration of focus groups, advisory boards, reviews, and customer meetings as appropriate.
Monitor state adoption market needs and large-scale district adoptions, working with Content Development, Sales and Marketing to maximize product and sales success. Partner closely with Marketing and Sales teams to seed and secure adoptions.
Fully understand and track all market activity that affects assigned portfolio, including any new product launches or enhancements and competitor movement. Develop a keen understanding of all competitors; develop an ability to anticipate competitor activity as it pertains to technology or subject area.
Initiate and explore partnership opportunities to strategically expand product offerings. Deliver arrangements that are both equitable and profitable for the company and partners and that add value to the company’s offerings. Provide thought leadership on pricing and business model strategies.
Work closely with colleagues in Higher Education to manage author relationships and communication. Support Product Development by facilitating author discussions related to needs for the Advanced Placement market.
Consult with and advise colleagues in manufacturing, inventory, and customer service to ensure all groups understand market and adoption needs for AP programs.
Skills You Will Need Here:
5+ years relevant and successful product management, marketing, sales, or development experience.
BA or BS in related discipline.
Drive for results. “Can-do” attitude and persistence. Determination and curiosity.
Understanding of digital functionality and how content is best utilized to communicate information; can “speak digital” as well as print.
Customer-focused. Track record of creating successful products by determining customer needs and challenges and translating those to product and value story for the market.
Interpersonal Savvy. Outstanding communication skills along with the capacity to work within corporate and entrepreneurial environments.
Ability to champion and execute market-oriented new and innovative approaches, ideas, methods, processes, products and services.
Strong negotiation and influence skills.
Proficient with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Passion for Education and specifically for digital learning products.
Advanced degree in discipline or MBA, or other primary skills like project management.
Experience bringing content-based learning solutions to market.
Experience with agile development processes and recurring release cycles.
