The Tanzu Observability team at VMware is seeking a Product Manager to help drive the core product roadmap and advance our mission to make Observability a mainstay at every enterprise. You will play a pivotal role in defining compelling and competitively differentiated features and user experience capabilities, communicating our roadmap to internal and external stakeholders, understanding our customers deeply, and collaborating with the engineering team to bring Tanzu Observability to market. Our teams build cloud-native observability solutions that give Developers and Site Reliability Engineers (SRE) the confidence to ship code faster and to operate highly scalable and distributed workloads while still having a good night's sleep.

What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

Working on observability solutions, you’ll be responsible for accelerating customer adoption to Platform Operators, Developers, Site Reliability Engineers (SRE) and Operations Teams as they embrace cloud-native applications based on modern architectures, and operate at scale distributed infrastructure on multi-clouds. Increasing key metrics by reducing time to value is critical to our success, and you will be in the driver’s seat to make that happen.

You will develop and lead strategies, experiments and execution to increase critical metrics across acquisition, engagement, feature adoption, retention and maximizing user value. Your mantra is to bring users to experience core product value and deliver measurable sustainable results across Tanzu Observability.

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

Performance goals will be based on growth metrics key to product and business outcomes. These outcomes should increase usage and adoption of Tanzu Observability, increase customer satisfaction and contribute to growing the business.

  • Identify and prioritize key product growth metrics that we want to improve.

  • Develop and own roadmap of hypothesis-based growth initiatives with quarterly plan and KPIs to achieve growth targets

  • Lead cross-functional team to design and test an experimentation methodology to develop best practices for execution

  • Lead cross-functional team to execute growth initiatives:

  • Run experiments for each hypothesis

  • Measure results to evaluate success/failure of each experiment

  • Based on results, continue with the plan or fail fast and define the next hypothesis

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Product Strategy: Define a product growth strategy informed by customer and market insights, data analysis, usage trends, competitive landscape, and company direction. Drive and own a prioritized list of hypothesis-based initiatives and associated KPIs.

  • Collaboration: Use this strategy to align, influence, and partner with product, data science, design, and engineering leaders to drive initiatives for product growth. Establish credibility and strong working relationships across the cross-functional organization.

  • Experimentation: Drive the experimentation methodology and execution and ensure it is scalable and sustainable. Share results to quantify impact and identify new opportunities.

  • Operational Efficiency: Streamline how qualitative and quantitative data get collected, used, and shared, to bring efficiency into cross-functional interactions.

  • Evangelize: Be the evangelist within Tanzu Observability on product led growth strategies. Analyze current trends and adoption of free trial and freemium offerings. Work with other product managers to help them grow usage in their domain.
