This is a Manager level Package Development position in a growing fast paced hair care consumer products company. The position reports to Package Development Sr. Management. Responsibilities include development of packaging for new aerosol product launches and focused emphasis on managing value analysis, re-sourcing, and line maintenance programs for the Living Proof Brand. The candidate for this position will have a clearly developed understanding of the role of packaging in consumer purchasing decisions for both aesthetics and functionality. This candidate will fully support the company's mandate to present a consistent outward facing image on shelf and online as a luxury, prestige brand. This is a lab/office position with the candidate required to be on site a minimum of 4 days a week when not travelling.


· Support Packaging Department Initiative to manage all aspects of the development process

· Complete Technical Profiles and Package Feasibility Studies for all programs

· Develop and Issue Specifications for new and existing Aerosol programs. Define specifications, defect ranges and design criteria to facilitate an optimized process flow from component manufacture thru fill and assembly.

· Design each new program with value analysis built in. Ensure that construction, design and assembly provide cost effective solutions along with the best quality and function. Work with Suppliers to achieve objectives.

· Participate in Vendor Selection/recommendations

· Prepare internal package development timelines with key development milestones-monitor and report progress

· Develop packaging cost comparisons for new product launches, value analysis ideas and packaging revisions where a technical solution is required

· Review and set Quality criteria and ranges for packaging components and master standards.

· Prepare timely and accurate Bills of Material and Assembly Instructions

· Prepare and implement comprehensive test plans for all programs

· Develop Risk Management Profiles for all programs

· Support key Department objectives to transition existing packaging components to a more Sustainable model making our packaging recycling ready and adding post-consumer (PCR) plastic to our components. Track, timeline and document for team against Unilever Corporate/Unilever Prestige commitments.

· Drive Department initiative to create a new on-line specification system. Move all Specs, Drawings & Artwork for Vendor access

· Manage packaging Line Maintenance projects

· Working with Supply Chain partners actively evaluate, recommend, and implement approved Value Analysis packaging initiatives

· Working with senior development facilitate Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) with focus on transition from Line Trial to Production runs with heavy interface between LP and Supplier's Manufacturing, Engineering and Quality Functions on each launch

· Collaborate with other Department members to transition our internal Package Testing Lab into the next phase of functionality. Create SOPs for internal package testing and Finished Goods reviews

· Manage disposition of packaging quality issues from initial investigation to implementing final solution

· Create Package Development SOPs for key operations and training

· Develop and maintain monthly key packaging department analytics for Value Analysis, Cost Savings and Re-Sourcing projects


The successful candidate will bring key skills, characteristics and experiences:

· BS in Package Engineering, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering

· 5 years plus direct experience in Cosmetic/Beauty package development or with a Supplier of Cosmetic packaging

· Experience with aerosol manufacturing/filling a plus.

· Proven ability to successfully drive package development from ideation thru to launch

· Excellent organizational/time management skills, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently

· Creative and problem solving skills

· Able to work effectively within a team and communicate at all levels of the organization

· Experienced in working effectively with Marketing, Design, Product Development and Supply Chain teams

· Proficient in MS Office, Advanced Power Point, Excel. Some CAD experience a plus

· Require excellent communication skills both written and oral

· Strong work ethic, demonstrated ability to work under pressure

· Availability to travel up to 35% of the time to packaging suppliers and CMOs in Northeast/Mid-Atlantic region

Technical Knowledge

Appropriate knowledge of materials and processes used in the manufacture of cosmetic packaging components. Candidate will have experience with:

o Extrusion Blow Molding

o Injection Molding

o Dispensing Systems

o Glass Manufacturing

o Decoration techniques for both primary and secondary packaging

o Aluminum can manufacturing

o Secondary packaging: folding cartons, enclosures, set- boxes, corrugated

o Labels
