Wayfair Operations Manager - Consumer Product, Design & Analytics in Boston, Massachusetts

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We’re bringing on a new member of our operations team to focus on 1) our longstanding consumer-facing technology team (called “Storefront”), and 2) the newly launched global communities that bring together and support designers, product managers, and analysts on teams across Wayfair.&nbsp;</span></p>


<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Storefront plays a crucial role in making Wayfair’s vision a reality by building all consumer-facing websites and Apps across all Wayfair retail brands and geographies. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We’re tackling a wide array of fascinating, incredibly difficult problems -- like helping a massive, swiftly growing global customer base efficiently find the perfect products from our catalog of &gt;10M items (with the majority of traffic on mobile), architecting our technology platform to unlock efficiency and scalability, and creating content-driven, tailored experiences for every Wayfair brand and user. We have a modern tech stack including sophisticated capabilities around AI, data science, multivariate testing, and personalization. <h2><strong>Global Communities (Experience Design, Product Management, Analytics)</strong></h2>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Our recently formed Global Communities are organizations that will help us elevate and harmonize the craft, processes, systems, and culture for specific non-engineering tech disciplines. Starting with Experience Design, we’re standing up these communities to drive cohesive end-user experiences, to create strong connective tissue across Wayfair departments, and to provide cultural connectedness and consistent career development opportunities to each designer (or product manager, or analyst) -- no matter where they sit in the org.&nbsp;</span></p>

<h2><strong>The Role</strong></h2>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We’re looking for an Operations Manager with an interest in tech product development and general management -- a curious, driven, and adaptable person who’s eager to learn how large organizations work and dive in to solve a variety of complex problems. As a member of the Operations team led by the Storefront Chief of Staff and working closely with our Vice President of Product, Design and Analytics, this role will work closely with senior leaders across Wayfair on both the tech and business sides of the company. You will play a crucial role in helping Storefront thrive by ensuring we remain a well-oiled machine as we scale. And you will be instrumental in designing and launching our new global communities and setting them up for success.&nbsp;</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While we have some flexibility in terms of specific focus areas, and the right leader will come up with their own sense of where to lean in to create impact, key responsibilities will include:</span></p>


<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Serving as a strategic thought partner to the Storefront leadership team and to the Global Heads of Design, Product, and Analytics </strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">- Form and share your perspectives on how we can improve on a wide variety of topics (e.g., operating model, team culture, cross-department collaboration, transparency). Help us identify blindspots, surface new opportunities, and remain aware of issues affecting team productivity and/or morale.&nbsp;</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Driving implementation of strategic cross-cutting initiatives </strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">- Ensure alignment around, transparency into, and crisp execution follow-through for cross-department initiatives (e.g., biannual planning and roadmapping, codifying and spreading standards best practices, onboarding new hires, cross-department resource planning, etc.).&nbsp;</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Helping us communicate clearly to internal and external audiences </strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">- Hone, articulate, and craft the messaging around the department’s vision, strategy, impact, learnings, and roadmap. Figure out and refine over time the most effective channels, media, emphasis, and tone for each key audience. Produce and coordinate large all-hands meetings and leadership meetings, creating and shaping strategic communications hands-on. Write weekly newsletters read by thousands. Design processes to efficiently generate quality content as we scale.</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Stewarding our culture and empowering leaders and teams to detect and resolve cultural issues </strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">- Discern where we can improve our culture (broadly, and on specific teams) by analyzing existing data sources and thinking through the best ways to collect data and assess team health going forward. Work with leadership to contextualize your findings and build action plans to address pressing needs. Lead strategic initiatives aimed at solving cross-functional cultural issues. Design and lead team-building activities and spread best practices across the org. You form strong partnerships with Wayfair’s Talent and Diversity departments and leverage the resources they offer.</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Guiding our teams’ career development and partnering with leadership to ensure fair, productive, tailored performance evaluation and people management </strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">- Make sure managers are aligned on performance expectations (for each discipline) and that these expectations are communicated clearly to employees. Empower managers to coach and create ongoing growth opportunities for their reports. Partner with Wayfair’s Talent department to adapt the performance review processes to the needs of specific functional areas. Implement the performance review process for some teams.</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Making sure our teams are always learning </strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">- Set the learning agenda for our teams, identify what resources we should provide, and help develop content when needed. Look for opportunities to scale learning resources across teams. Leverage the expertise of Wayfair’s Learning &amp; Development department.</span></li>

<li style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Deepening our ties with the tech community outside of Wayfair </strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">- Engage with the broader tech community outside of Wayfair, both to strengthen Wayfair’s brand as a top tech employer and to enrich the ecosystems in which we operate. Includes partnership strategy, potentially producing a tentpole annual event, and employer brand content creation, among other activities.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></li>
