General Electric Managing Director, Software Products in Boston, Massachusetts

Role Summary:

The Managing Director, Software Products works across Energy Consulting, which offers our global clients a wide range of solutions across power generation, delivery and utilization.

Essential Responsibilities:

As the Managing Director, Software Products, you will:

  • Be responsible for overall operations, growth strategy and execution for the Software Products team, including development of commercial and internal use software, growth and expansion plans for software deployment, and growth of GE’s presence / influence in the industry in the areas of generation and reliability planning

  • Be responsible for talent development, including: hiring, mentoring, and performance management of the team to develop / train staff, promote GE beliefs / values in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are highly valued

  • Create a high-energy, collaborative work environment with a sense of identity and pride

  • Implement and maintain a variety of administrative functions in support of a diverse team focused on the business core practice areas and influence functions (i.e., IT, HR)

  • Support commercial success of Energy Consulting by delivering the financial goals and business priorities for the Software Products team, and managing the team priorities to ensure that they met

  • Oversee and drive business development to ensure sufficient volume of commercial software license and consulting projects to meet the revenue goals, and an appropriate variety of assignments to drive balanced talent development

  • Identify and cultivate new customers and business opportunities

  • Build relationships with external entities (e.g., universities, research labs, etc.) for collaboration on funded research projects, sales of GE’s commercial software packages, and development of future engineering top talent

  • Actively participate in Industry forums to promote GE, Energy Consulting and GE technology

  • Effectively communicate results to both internal and external stakeholders by preparing written detailed summary reports and making presentations describing commercial software solutions, consulting studies, and customer value propositions

  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to understand needs and translate those needs into short and long-term product development plans

  • Lead strategic planning and long-term development of commercial software offerings of GE MAPS, MARS and PSLF, as well as other applicable GE product / service offerings, with New Product / Technology Introductions (NPI / NTI) concurrent with the software team and other GE business needs

  • Collaborate with Energy Consulting leadership team across all practice areas to develop cross-functional assignments that advance the stature of Energy Consulting as a full-service consulting organization with global reach

  • Support and help staff the commercial software training for GE MAPS, MARS and PSLF offerings, and the Power Systems and Energy Courses (PSEC)

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics from an accredited university or college

  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in power systems engineering, planning and modeling practices of large scale systems, such as development of large-scale power flow, dispatch or simulation models

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading diverse teams

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience with the software development lifecycle and development of enterprise applications in object-oriented programming languages (Java, C#, python) / C, and software development approaches (agile, scrum, Kanban)

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time, as required

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master's Degree / PhD in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering,Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Business from an accredited university or college

  • Expertise in power systems operations, planning, economics, regulations, and equipment application; generation, transmission, distribution and industrial; and protection and control design concepts for major power systems equipment

  • Experience with power equipment dynamic modeling and simulation in key software analytic tools (i.e., ATP, PSLF, PSS / E, MATLAB, DigSilent PowerFactory, Python, PSCAD)

  • Industry stature IEEE / CIGRE, ASME, AWEA, PE with published papers in one or more technical societies

  • Six Sigma training certification or equivalent Quality certification

  • Proficiency with office productivity software (e.g., MS Office, Visio, MS Project)

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g., ability to effectively communicate with all levels of customer / plant staff)

  • Strong written and oral communication skills suitable for making presentations to internal and external business stakeholders, and for supporting GE executive external communications

  • Demonstrated capability to complete projects on-time and on-budget, as either individual contributor or project manager

  • Demonstrated technical leadership in creating winning proposals and managing delivery of large projects

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams to high value technical solutions
