Product Design Manager

Pearson is seeking a Product Design Manager to guide one of our Higher Education Product Design teams. In this role, you will use your strong problem-solving, design thinking, interaction design and strategic skills to collaboratively bring to life truly delightful learning experiences with a cross-functional Product Design team. You'll work in partnership with Product Management and Development teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in setting strategic objectives to achieve business results. Owns and guides their product.

  • Establish a unique vision for the future and generate broad support across partner teams.

  • Create elegant solutions to complex, end-to-end user flows across multiple business systems.

  • Scope, design, and lead execution of design research grounded in evidence-based processes to validate the efficacy of our solutions.

  • Manage, mentor and lead a cross-functional design team to raise the level of skill and knowledge on the team.

  • Apply fundamental user experience, design, and research principles to deliver intuitive and effective customer journeys.

  • Translate research findings into sitemaps, user flows, journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.

  • Improve the customers’ experiences by understanding what’s important, measuring how we’re doing, and driving priorities to improve.

  • Drive the adoption of product and process improvements.

  • Establish and advocate design principles and iterative design processes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Uses deep professional expertise in specific technical or domain areas to contribute to development of company priorities and achieves goals in creative and effective ways.

  • Manage and lead the activities of a cross-functional UX team.

  • Identifies skill set gaps, recruiting, selecting, and training new hires.

  • Applies strategic thinking with respect to design and technology choices.

  • Ensures that design is grounded in evidence-based research processes .

  • Quickly and reasonably estimates scope and capacity for proposed initiatives.

  • Understands how they fit into the overall business strategy, so they can support organization’s priorities.

  • A significant contributor to creating and holding the vision for the end to end customer experience.

  • Participates in setting strategic objectives to achieve business results.

  • Partners and collaborates across organizational boundaries.

  • Mentors and teaches team members to raise the level of skill and knowledge

  • Comfortably moves between highly varying levels of abstraction from business strategy to product strategy to high level technical design to implementation.

  • Clearly documents and communicates objectives, requirements, and designs at these different levels of abstraction to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • 5 years of experience designing rich and engaging product experiences and leading highly productive design teams.

  • Demonstrated excellence in simplifying complex user flows, interaction patterns and product experiences that align with multiple user needs; a portfolio that demonstrates these abilities.

  • Fluent in the end-to-end UX and UI design process; ability to work within established frameworks – but also push the boundaries to impact change!

  • Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, InVision, Figma, or equivalent tools.

  • Strong knowledge in both desktop and mobile design, including native.

  • Strong storytelling capabilities and ability to professionally structure and convey presentations.

  • Experience managing a team and mentoring people.

  • Experience working within an agile environment.

  • Understanding and respect for an accessible experience.

Colorado-based individuals expressing interest in this position can expect a starting salary range of $110,000-$145,000, and are eligible to participate in an annual incentive plan. Benefits available to eligible employees can be seen at:
