VMware Manager, Technical Writing (Tanzu Documentation) - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Boston, Massachusetts

In this Information Experience (IX) Manager role in the Modern Applications Platform Business Unit (MAPBU) at VMware, you will:

  • Work with the IX leadership and product development teams in the Modern Applications Business Unit to lead a talented team of team of technical writers.

  • Support and drive the IX team’s core mission to deliver product documentation and self-help content that enable customers to achieve their goals.

  • You are results-oriented with a strong focus on quality documentation, and enjoy working as part of a distributed, global team in a fast-paced environment.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

Over the first 6-12 months you will:

  • Lead technical writers and documentation projects in the Modern Applications Platform Business Unit (MAPBU).

  • Provide career guidance, performance feedback, and professional development discussions to team.

  • Work with R&D teams to understand product needs, schedules, and requirements.

  • Engage with company support teams such as HR, Staffing, IT, Support and Content Tools, etc.

  • Hire and allocate full time and contractor resources to support product engagements.

  • Make resource allocation and product engagement decisions with minimum help from IX Manager.

  • Represent VMware externally to the technical writing community.

  • Collaborate with IX and R&D leadership teams to consistently improve our processes and technologies and nurture innovation.

  • Work with our fast-paced, dynamic team to help us deliver our mission and seek innovation that will ensure we continue to give customers the best information experience possible.

  • Work with other IX managers, R&D stakeholders, outside vendors, and IX team members to ensure the successful and timely delivery of product documentation.

  • Align on business goals (OKRs), define your team’s highest priorities, and work with your team to deliver on those priorities.

  • Develop and grow your team members.

  • Suggest improvements to IX processes and standards.

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

You will report to the Senior Manager of Information Experience for Modern Applications Business Unit (MAPBU) at VMware, who leads the MAPBU IX team. We are a geographically distributed team of 25+ IX members responsible for the content experience for a significant number of products in the VMware Tanzu portfolio.

Where is this role located?

Flexible: The role is considered flexible and will be a mix of working from a local VMware office and remote depending on your preferences and the arrangements determined with your future manager. You will be expected to live within a reasonable non-daily commute of the office.
