Alexion Pharmaceuticals Manager, Public Affairs and Strategic Partnerships in Boston, Massachusetts

This position can be based from Boston, MA or be remote/virtual, based anywhere within the United States and may require up to 20% travel to existing Alexion sites.

Position Overview:

The manager is part of the Corporate Affairs organization. The manager is accountable for partnering and delivery across multiple projects on time and with high quality. This position focuses on projects within the Corporate Affairs team and will provide overall project management including management of scope, schedule, risks, issues, and deliverables. The manager will also conduct landscape research and analysis, assist in managing external and internal vendors, and work with multiple Alexion stakeholders, to develop and manage integrated project schedules that drives project execution across multiple workstreams. Workstreams include reputation analysis and measurement, strategic partnerships, and team operations. The manager will also develop first drafts of needed materials, including internal memos, PowerPoint decks, and correspondence with internal and external partners.

The position works closely with the internal and external partners, serving as a relationship and project manager. This includes R and D, corporate communications, policy, and human experience teams on strategic initiatives impacting Alexion’s reputation and strategic partnerships.

Principal Responsibilities

The project manager will:

  • Drive project management processes (including scope, schedule, risk, issue, resource and budget management)

  • Develop and maintain integrated project plan, status reports, a deliverables

  • Provide input on potential measurement and partnership activities

  • Develop materials, support partners,

  • Research and analyze potential approaches and landscape opportunities

  • Manage and prepare project status reporting

  • Efficiently identify and resolve project issues; Escalate issues that require attention


  • Minimum 5 years of experience in healthcare, market research, or project management

  • Expert project management skills, with proven track record of leading broad, complex and/or strategic projects combined with the ability to execute at tactical project-level activities and tasks including defining project scope, integrated project scheduling , status reporting to all levels of stakeholders

  • Proven ability to do quick turnaround research and analysis

  • Track record of contributing to executive facing presentations

  • Demonstrated skill as a research analyst on external affairs issues, eg media analysis, policy analysis, message research

  • High-level capability for concise story-telling via PowerPoint

  • Drive for high quality and ability to collaborate with other stakeholders to achieve high goals

  • Ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders to establish and ensure a reliable and productive working relationship, including with vendor partners

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • 3+ years experience with pharmaceutical industry and/or healthcare topics

  • 2+ year experience in consulting or agency environment preferred

  • Understanding of the pharmaceutical industry market, reputational issues, and reputational or media analysis preferred
