Job Description:

The Landscape Architecture group at CDM Smith is embedded within a diverse, multidisciplinary engineering firm. We engage on a weekly basis in a broad range of challenging and exciting site design projects with a scope of work encompassing recreational, institutional, and municipal site design. Weekly workload can vary widely, resulting in a fast-paced and exciting work environment that fosters rapid technical development and varied opportunities and pathways for career growth.

Upon joining the team, you will coordinate, prepare, and assemble site design construction drawings for public bidding, including technical specifications and presentation materials. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp on the core design principals of site development, such as layout, grading, materials technology and permitting. Specific knowledge pertaining to public open space design, pedestrian oriented streetscape design, and stormwater/green infrastructure design is desirable. Daily workflow will include frequent interactions with Project Managers and internal professional staff to coordinate design production, assist in review of shop drawings/submittals, and attend construction and public/client meetings. CDM Smith places a strong emphasis on internal staff development. Opportunities for formalized mentor/mentee relationships are encouraged and supported.

Additional responsibilities include collaborating with sales staff to develop proposals in response to current and potential client RFP’s, meeting with current and potential future clients to review their current and future design needs, and assisting in sub-consultant management and cost estimate takeoffs. Attending conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's services is highly encouraged along with the development of technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or related discipline. 5 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Skills and Abilities:

Solid knowledge in the use and application of computer-aided design (CADD). Good graphic and interpersonal communications skills.
