Job Summary
The Buildings + Places business line of AECOM is seeking an experienced and talented Lab Planner and a Senior Lab Planner with relevant experience in laboratory (including vivarium) programming, planning and design for the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, academic, biomedical or other research institutions. This position will be based in our Boston, MA office.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Works directly with clients, scientists, researchers and related end-users to develop laboratory planning strategies at all levels of detail including new construction and renovations
Offers and supports creative laboratory planning, technical design and detailing decisions that are in line with project goals and understands their impact on cost, construction, sustainability and other factors
Provides and follows verbal and written instructions to revise, develop and produce plans, elevations and details appropriately
Directs document production in accordance with identified project specific checklists, AECOM standards and QA/QC standard program
Promotes firm and project goals of excellence in design, execution, and sustainability
Day to day project and client management of laboratory projects from initial planning through construction
Minimum Requirements
Associates degree or equivalent
Lab Planner must have 4+ years of experience/ Senior Lab Planner must have 9+ years of related laboratory architectural planning experience
Working knowledge and skill set to guide discussions for laboratory (including vivarium) room/space development in conjunction with equipment and other technical attributes
Ability to work with end users to develop process flows, planning process and critical adjacencies of research and laboratory rooms for optimum efficiency and flexibility
Leadership experience, including managing client expectations, multi-disciplinary team, and meeting scope/schedule/budget
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and supervisory skills and ability to communicate with, mentor and motivate team members
Advanced knowledge of the architectural planning and design process, construction documentation, construction administration and code requirements
Must have the ability to work effectively and communicate with clients, scientists, laboratory technicians in addition to working in a collaborative office setting and packaging deliverables
Must have Revit and AutoCAD experience
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Architecture
Licensed Architect
Good understanding of mechanical and electrical systems within a laboratory and vivaria
