External Job Title: IT Operations Communications & Talent Strategy Manager

This is a key position reporting directly to the Director of IT Excellence, within the IT Operations and Enablement team. The successful candidate will be an energetic and clear communicator who possesses outstanding people, project, and process management skills and is a critical thinker, helping to develop and manage key initiatives, support the CIO in strategic communications, and develop and manage IT’s talent strategy. The person in this role must be adept at synthesizing inputs from multiple stakeholders from both IT and the business, and converting those inputs into tangible work plans, unified and strategic presentations or other messaging. He or she will help the IT organization to build momentum for new initiatives, and ensuring follow-through on the part of key players to achieve goals. As a close partner to the VP IT Operations and Enablement and the CIO, the candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills, judgment, integrity, and leadership. He or she will lead communications strategies and support execution of all aspects of them on behalf of the IT organization, driving awareness and commitment related to a revised vision for HMH IT, and mobilizing IT and Business stakeholders to take actions or operate in new ways. This position is located in Boston, Massachusetts.

Duties & Responsibilities include:

Duties & responsibilities of the Manager of IT Operations, Communications, and Talent Strategy include, but are not limited to, the following:

Develop work plans and execute upon specific strategic initiatives to advance the mission and goals of the IT organization.

Organize regular management meetings for the CIO, develop communication protocols, and address issues impacting progress towards IT goals and business outcomes.

Support key CIO in developing key presentations, including ELT meetings, budget planning, quarterly business reviews, etc.

Execute on IT organizational process improvements and related performance measures.

Partner with VP IT Operations & Enablement and the HR business partner to develop IT’s talent strategy, and monitor execution of talent strategy, including campus recruiting plans, diversity and inclusiveness, and overall pipeline of talent across all experience levels.

Process sensitive and confidential information with professionalism, judgment and tact.

Desired Skills and Experience:

This person is a self-motivated individual with excellent personal management and organizational skills who possesses:

Integrity – Maintains high level of integrity in all aspects of execution.

BA degree in business, finance, or related discipline, MBA preferred. Must be able to understand a broad range of topics around which strategic initiatives and communication may be required.

5+ years of business experience working with senior leadership and executive levels of organizations preferred

Exceptional communication skills (interpersonal, written, presentation development). Must have the ability to take high-level ideas, complex information, strategies, and ambiguous objectives, and translate them into clear strategic communication artifacts for multi-level audiences – executives to specific team members.

Strong analytical skills, with the ability to drive structured problem solving and solutions across broad stakeholder groups.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively to deal well with shifting priorities and assignments.

Presents an appropriately professional image; communicates clearly, concisely, and diplomatically.

Develops and fosters strong business relationships with colleagues on a global basis.

Demonstrates leadership without authority, initiative, efficiency, productivity, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.

Respects confidential / sensitive information.

Motivated to continuously learn new things, maintaining a positive attitude.

Flexible working style that is adaptable to disparate audiences and working styles.

Physical Requirements:

Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing)

The person in this position needs to move about inside office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc

Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer

Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings
