The Investor Relations (IR) Senior Director will serve as an integral member of the #1 ranked US large cap IR team and will report to the Vice President, Head of IR. The IR Senior Director is responsible for developing and directing the implementation of IR strategies programs for a global, large cap healthcare company. The position involves significant external interaction with the global investment community, including investors and analysts, and requires significant collaboration with the Head of IR, the CFO, and other executive management to maintain accurate investor perceptions of the companys strategies and financial performance.

The position directs the creation, refinement, and dissemination of strategic and financial communication materials for investors used in quarterly earnings calls, investor conferences, major medical congresses, investor meetings, and the companys biennial Investor Day. The IR Director will interact frequently with multiple functions across the company, including executive and business leadership, finance (external reporting, financial planning analysis, tax, treasury, and accounting), strategy, legal, regulatory, reimbursement, marketing, human resources, operations, government affairs, and communications.

The position requires an articulate and analytical professional who can provide work direction, including management of a small team, as well as make significant individual contributions, while also strategically leveraging the broader Medtronic organization for relevant information and insight into key issues. A successful candidate must either already possess or have the capacity to quickly develop an in-depth understanding of the companys activities and strategies, competitive landscape, financial reporting, and financial disclosure regulations. The person must have the ability to build cross-functional relationships, work effectively with others, and think strategically, globally, and creatively. In addition, the successful candidate will need to think and act quickly under a variety of high pressure, time sensitive situations, and needs to be able to make clear, rational, data-driven decisions, compliant with all applicable rules and regulations, in a very dynamic environment. This position interacts regularly with all levels of management and must be able to earn the respect and trust of senior management based on demonstrated performance.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Communication Management:

Develop and maintain a broad and in-depth knowledge all of Medtronics businesses across all functions and geographies, including the ability to effectively understand and communicate the key dynamics of Medtronics financials, strategies, and competitive and regulatory environments.

Manage Medtronics financial brand by creating and prioritizing key messages and proof points, identifying key issues and opportunities, and developing innovative IR strategies and programs accordingly

Make recommendations to optimize the companys financial disclosure

Direct the preparation of quarterly earnings releases, including preparing analytics, summarizing operational results, drafting or editing quarterly investor communication materials (key messages, press release, conference call script, investor presentation, and QA document), as well as prepare senior executives to ensure communication objectives are met.

Direct the planning and execution of investor events, including the biennial Medtronic Institutional Investor and Analyst Conference (Investor Day) and General Manager Call Series through collaborative interaction with executive management and the IR senior strategic meeting planning specialist.

Accompany and support the CEO, CFO, Head of IR, and other members of senior management in investor meetings, both virtual and in-person meetings around the globe, including the ability to provide strategic judgment and support, relevant financial and operational background information, as well as real-time advice, candid feedback, and constructive criticism to senior leadership.

Act as the official Medtronic spokesperson with investors and analysts at major medical and investor conferences, while also serving as the primary IR liaison with Medtronic senior management.

Direct and assist with the preparation of communication materials used in IR presentations

Investor Analyst Management:

Provide ongoing, direct interface with institutional investors and equity research analysts. Being compliant with disclosure regulations, respond accurately and in a timely manner to numerous and varied requests from investors and analysts for information on the company including operating results and business strategies.

Monitor shareholder movements and assist with shareholder targeting, including recommending opportunities and risks

Track equity research analyst financial models and consensus

Internal Decision Support:

Closely monitor and understand market sentiment and the significant body of investor and media reports that directly and indirectly affect Medtronic and its competitors, providing guidance to the Head of IR, and senior executives when necessary

Prepare senior management for interaction with institutional investors and equity research analysts.

IR Function Management:

Oversee the activities of a small team of IR staff (1-3 people) and manage changing priorities to ensure goals are met on time, as well as providing staff with leadership and insightful guidance to ensure engagement, success, and career development

Advise the Head of IR on setting strategic direction of the IR department

Monitor external, cross-sector IR developments and best practices, providing guidance to the IR team and senior management to implement when appropriate

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors degree required

Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience with 10+ years of managerial experience , or Advanced Degree with a minimum 13 years prior relevant experience, minimum of 10 years of managerial experience

Nice to Have

Experience in equity research, investment management, investor relations, product marketing, strategy, or finance

Experience with the medical device sub-sector or healthcare sector

Experience working with investors, senior executives, or other high-touch client groups; strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels; poised and persuasive with a high degree of confidence, diplomacy, judgement, and discretion

Quick study, flexible, adapts easily to change, thrives in uncertain and sometimes crisis environment, excellent stamina and high tolerance for ambiguity/limited direction

Effective leadership skills and ability to collaborate with others, with a history of attracting and developing elite talent and creating an engaging, diverse, and inclusive work environment

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel
