The Role

The Portfolio Engineering Investment Architecture team is responsible for the business and systems architecture, design, and workflow that enables the personalization of client portfolios at scale. The team focuses on how to implement new investment ideas and capabilities in hundreds of thousands of client accounts, bridging product development, fundamental and quantitative research, investment management and technology. As SA continues to grow and manage increasingly complex goals and portfolios, the Investment Architecture team will play a key role in improving and developing the new tools, workflows and platforms that are needed.


You will:

  • Work alongside the product and investment design teams to understand what future capabilities the investment and portfolio construction platforms need to support.

  • Formulate the long-term business and architecture vision to support these capabilities and lay out a roadmap that aligns with the broader SA vision.

  • Collaborate with the Systematic and Integrated PE teams and utilize business intelligence tools to find opportunities to improve Portfolio Engineering effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Work closely with the PE Scaled Investment and Investment R&D teams to:

o Prototype and develop technical requirements for new client portfolio construction capabilities such as prioritization logic, scoring and routing analytics, account optimization, trading, and workflow.

o Develop proof-of-concept solutions, test process improvements with business partners, and work with technology teams to incorporate into investment platforms

  • Partner with technology teams on the ongoing evolution of the investment platform.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Analytical and architecture-oriented mindset

  • Ability to visualize patterns and abstract problems

  • Tech savvy, ability to understand and collaborate with technology at a deep level

  • Ability to work across the organization in various disciplines

  • An entrepreneurial spirit, intellectual curiosity and motivation to learn and grow

  • 5 years in the investment management industry; deep understanding of financial markets and the investment management process. CFA and/or CFP credentials or progress towards either a plus.

  • A background in both engineering/technology and quantitative finance/investment management would be ideal. Experience programming in R and SQL; using portfolio analysis tools such as Factset or Barra; using business intelligence tools such as Spotfire or Tableau a plus.
