Position Summary:

The Head of Business Analysis reports to the Vice President of Product and Portfolio Management. The role will provide leadership and guidance to the Manager(s) and Director(s) of the Business Analysis department and their teams. The team is composed of Product Owners and Business Analysts focused on translating product vision (via epics and features) into actionable user stories for agile teams. The team works closely with our Product Managers to carry the vision of Pearson’s products to the software development, curriculum development, and service delivery teams.

The individual is expected to be an expert in Agile Software Development practices (Scaled Agile Framework® preferred) and will direct the implementation of those practices within the Business Analysis team. They must also provide mentorship for other stakeholders, including stakeholders from other departments, who are maturing in their knowledge of SAFe® practices.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Set a vision and strategy for the Business Analysis team that applies best practices from SAFe® into the Pearson Online & Blended Learning context

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the roles and responsibilities of the Business Analysis team and a deep understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Product Management and Product Development teams

  • Design and implement processes, policies, and trainings for the Business Analysis team to improve their effectiveness and efficiency

  • Develop strong working relationships with Product Development leadership to ensure tough decisions, issue escalation, and change/enhancement requests are managed well

  • Evaluate dashboards and reports to ensure the successful delivery of our products and adherence to SAFe® best practices

  • Manage multiple managers and their teams, which includes administrative duties such as employee reviews, interviewing and hiring of potential candidates, paid time off management, etc.

  • Develop rapport and trust with business owners and key stakeholders

  • Business Management

  • Lead and support continual process improvement by proposing optimizations for any aspect of the development environment and lifecycle

  • Work with Finance partners to monitor adherence to budget including capital and non-capital expense

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • Multiple years of experience working in a product management or business analysis role with demonstrated successes and a strong track record

  • Multiple years of experience working in an Agile Software Development environment, including a strong working knowledge of the methodology (SAFe® preferred), user stories, and iterative development

  • Experience leading a team of high achieving, driven, and diverse individuals

  • Education or working knowledge in systems analysis and quality assurance techniques

  • Strong analytical skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements

  • Experience working with database-driven Web applications, preferably .NET

  • Ability to work from home or during off hours as necessary.

In addition, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in the education field

  • Certified Scrum Product Owner preferred

  • Certified SAFe® Agilist preferred

  • Certified SAFe® PO/PM preferred

  • Experience managing a large team and budget.
