Description
This position is located in the Government & Community Relations Office, within the Executive Office. Primary responsibilities include supporting connections between the policy, advocacy, and community engagement functions of the Government & Community Relations Office. This includes working with Fenway Health staff as well staff in community, state and city agencies.
Representative Duties:
Lead community engagement and outreach projects
Maintain working knowledge of political and social issues affecting health centers, LGBTQIA+ populations, and HIV programs and services.
Implement and design grant projects that encourage community leadership and are open to feedback from stakeholders.
Develop and oversee implementation of a digital advocacy strategy, including creation of social media materials focused on advocacy initiatives, working in coordination with the Communications Department.
Identify potential programmatic problems and maintain flexibility while creating and executing a plan of action towards solutions.
Evaluate project participants and project structure to identify possible areas of improvement. Modify future work plans to incorporate feedback from evaluations.
Prioritize between competing deadlines and navigating multiple programmatic challenges thoughtfully and with grace.
Plan, track, and maintain records for program grant budgets, adjust and allow flexibility as needed.
Motivate and engage community members, sustaining advocacy involvement beyond initial projects to cultivate an informed advocate base.
Demonstrate comfort and skill in facilitating discussions and respectful debate with a variety of audiences.
Build, grow, and expand program scope and structure, creating new content when appropriate and relevant.
Supervise project participants for duration of fellowship, provide flexible support as conflicts arise, and sustain productive engagement beyond project completion.
Support policy & advocacy initiatives and coalition-building activities
Cultivate connections between advocacy and outreach work with Fenway’s policy agenda and legislative priorities.
Participate in Fenway Health’s coalition efforts.
Collaborate with other Fenway Health staff on opportunities to engage in advocacy projects.
Present project summaries and progress to internal and external community stakeholders for the purpose of coalition building.
Requirements
At least two years of experience in HIV/AIDS public policy, legislative advocacy, or community organizing
Knowledge of and sensitivity to diverse communities, particularly BIPOC communities, LGBTQIA+ communities, and people living with HIV/AIDS
Knowledge and/or experience working within LGBTQIA+ and HIV communities in Boston and the surrounding areas
Excellent written and verbal skills
Ability to meet deadlines within a team environment
Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends
Computer literacy, Microsoft Office programs
