Boston University Questrom School of Business is seeking motivated and driven candidates for the Events Specialist role. Candidates will be well versed in the events industry and eager to build a career in the field of event planning. Questrom's Events and Conferences unit produces a variety of events including conferences, networking events, social events, graduation ceremonies, and more. This is a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Questrom Events and Conferences is committed to exceptional event delivery and bringing our clients events to life. Overview: Reporting to the Director of Events, Conferences, and Brand Initiatives, the Events Specialist is responsible for the planning and delivery of Questrom events and programs involving both internal and external stakeholders. The Events Specialists responsibilities begin at the initial inquiry of an event, through the planning, up until the event itself and any wrap up and post evaluation. The role will work in conjunction with the rest of the Questrom Events and Conferences team as well as entities such as Finance and Administration, Marketing and Communication, Learning and Event Technology Services, Facilities, and Catering. The majority of clients will include Questrom student groups, internal program offices, Questrom faculty, and Questrom affiliated Institutes but will support events from other stakeholders as well including executive education programs. The Events Specialist will also serve as a member of the Questrom Convocation Committee, assisting with the planning and execution of the schools graduation ceremonies and receptions. Events will take place in the Questrom building, on the Boston University campus, and off-campus.

Required Skills


  • The business hours for Questrom Events and Conferences are Monday through Friday from 9:00am-5:30pm. Events and programs can and will be scheduled outside of these hours.

  • Nights and weekends are required for this role.

  • Compensatory time is provided for events that fall outside of the units business hours. This role is not eligible for overtime compensation.

  • This position is eligible for up to one day per week of remote work with exceptions.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

  • 1-3 years of experience in the events industry.

  • Completed employment application including a resume and cover letter. Finalists will be asked to provide professional references.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education.

  • Knowledge of event platforms including Social Tables and CVENT.

  • Knowledge of the events industry including trends, design, and safety.

  • Optional portfolio of past event work.
