Wayfair Engineering Manager- Competitive & Demand Economics in Boston, Massachusetts

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Wayfair is on a path to be the world’s largest online destinations for the home.&nbsp; The pricing team is responsible for building&nbsp; and operating highly available, large scale distributed systems used to set&nbsp; and distribute retail prices for Wayfair. &nbsp; We use machine learning, AI, and data science (collectively called Algorithms) to inform the final prices.&nbsp; In this role we need a leader that is equally comfortable managing a world class software development team and working side by side with the data science team to push the envelope.&nbsp; This team supports the services that encapsulate our intelligence on product demand and competitive intelligence.&nbsp;</span></p>

<p><strong>What You'll Do</strong></p>

<ul>

<li>Lead one or more dev teams of strong, engaged engineers. Manage, mentor and coach team members at multiple career levels</li>

<li>Partner as a thought leader with your product and data science peers to define the vision for your platform and build the roadmap for your team</li>

<li>Execute and own all aspects of software development for your team – design, development and deployment</li>

<li>Use depth and breadth of technical expertise to ensure platforms being built are scalable, maintainable and extensible</li>

<li>Demonstrate strong motivation and drive to improve all aspects of the team and platform - whether it's making process improvements or rearchitecting the platform for the next level of scale and operability</li>

</ul>

<p><strong>What You'll Need</strong></p>

<ul>

<li>B.S. or equivalent experience in computer science/related field</li>

<li>Experience making architectural and design-related decisions for large scale platforms, understanding the tradeoffs between time-to-market vs. flexibility.</li>

<li>Experience hiring and mentoring junior and senior engineers across levels</li>

<li>Experience initiating and driving complex projects to completion with minimal guidance</li>

<li>Experience building a variety of applications ranging from low latency APIs to large scale batch systems</li>

<li>Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders alike</li>
