Boston Globe Media Partners Editor, Mobile Applications in Boston, Massachusetts
The Boston Globe is hiring an editor for its mobile app and digital platforms. We?re looking for someone with a wealth of energy and ideas who can elevate our approach to one of our fastest-growing digital properties.
This editor will be the editorial owner of our mobile app, a fast-growing, subscriber-only offering that has more than 200,000 downloads and fosters some of our deepest reader engagement.
The editor will be in charge not only of daily programming and push alerts, but will also work hand-in-hand with our product and development teams to steadily improve the user experience and editorial offerings of the app. We need someone creative who sees the opportunities ahead of us and can help deliver on them.
Additionally, the editor will also help manage updates to our website, creating homes and destinations for our special sections and new initiatives. Alignment across our app, mobile Web, and desktop is key to ensuring a seamless experience for readers.
The editor also needs to be a superior journalist. We need someone with razor-sharp headline skills and superior news judgment who thrives in the middle of a busy story and confidently makes news decisions on deadline.
In addition, the editor should be someone who:
Is a strong writer with a knack for distilling complicated concepts into a handful of clear, crisp words.
Has deep experience publishing to digital platforms, whether it?s your site?s homepage, social media accounts, newsletters, alerts, or another avenue through which readers travel.
Is comfortable working alongside business-side colleagues. You know a sprint doesn?t mean running and understand the difference between a bug and a feature.
Loves to experiment and test. You thrive on finding creative ways to blend technology and journalism together.
Is fluent in audience analytics -- not only how to interpret them, but also how to use them as a tool to make decisions.
Thrives as part of a group setting, juggling multiple tasks at once and collaborating in a fast-paced environment.
At least 2-4 years of experience as a digital journalist
Excellent writing and editing skills, for both copy and clarity
Experience programming apps and websites for mobile readers
Familiarity with product management, development, user experience, and design
Skilled at multitasking and juggling multiple, fast-moving stories or projects
Experienced with social media and other alternate modes of storytelling
A team player who thrives working in a group setting
Has a willingness to adapt, be audience focused with a curious mindset, and committed to creating an inclusive work environment
