The Role: Xylem seeks to hire a Director of Strategy and Business Development to support Xylem’s continued growth and evolution as a leading global solution provider in the water sector. You will play a critical role in shaping our strategic direction, identifying and analyzing new strategic growth opportunities, developing new partnerships and alliances, and coordinating selected cross-enterprise strategic initiatives.

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Continuously analyze changes in our market environment, including competitors, customers and stakeholders, and generate recommendations based on these

  • Work across the enterprise to shape, frame and execute a range of strategic projects (e.g. growth strategy, adjacency evaluation, partnership development)

  • Conceive, negotiate and implement partnerships and alliances that create value

  • Support execution of mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • A bachelor’s degree, and ideally a graduate degree in one or more relevant subjects, including engineering and/or computer science, business administration, law or economics

  • Distinctive critical thinking and analytic capabilities, with the ability to solve highly ambiguous business problems by creating structure, collecting relevant data, and generating actionable insights

  • Knowledge of the water industry and familiarity with adjacent business areas, such as utilities, industrial process, and the internet of things

  • An interdisciplinary perspective with the ability to synthesize insights from various fields (e.g. policy, economics, environmental science and engineering)

  • Diverse and global experience, especially in emerging markets, cross-sectoral partnerships, and working in inter-cultural environments

  • Possess strong influencing skills, with proven ability to align stakeholders around bold actions

  • A passion for transforming water management to advance global sustainability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a professional services environment with tight deadlines and a focus on complex client deliverables, such as management consulting, investment banking, law or accounting is preferable.

  • Prior experience related to corporate strategy, partnerships and mergers and acquisitions would be a plus.

  • Prior experience in a diversity of environments, such as multiple geographies, work across public/private/nonprofit sectors, and different functional roles
