As a recognized leader within the SBU and through management of a team of product research analysts, provides analytical assessments and develops product underwriting strategy to solve for issues facing the SBU. Creates and executes product underwriting strategies both individually and through influence. Familiarity with advanced predictive modeling and statistical techniques to enhance risk selection and create new underwriting levers. Sponsors or manages special projects. Presents work to Product Management, Product SVPs, Distribution leadership, Claims leadership and Chief Product Officer.
Manages a team of highly technical and analytical product research analysts;
Leads the development of the overall underwriting strategy and prioritizes among projects to deliver highest level of benefit to the organization
Leads high complexity, long-term projects and collaborates and influences stake holders throughout the organization
Provides strategic and tactical direction on initiatives for development and execution of product underwriting strategy countrywide.
Sponsors modeling projects and gives direction to staff at all levels of the organization.
Drives the development and execution of underwriting processes throughout the organization.
Sponsors projects with team members across multiple functional areas.
Will provide direction and guidance on product underwriting research topics for competitive evaluation and target competitors.
Master's degree or equivalent in mathematics, economics, statistics, or other quantitative field.
Minimum 8 years, typically 10 years or more of relevant experience. PhD beneficial.
Expert skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical software packages (e.g., SAS, Emblem).
Must have exceptional planning, analytical, decision-making, communication, and project management skills.
Experience directly managing others required. Experience managing operations beneficial.
High-level knowledge of data sources, tools, and the business (lines, systems, pricing plans), predictive modeling, and code (e.g., SQL).
Significant understanding of competitors' pricing strategies and relationship to our own.
Industry knowledge developed from internal meetings, news alerts, project-specific work, and proactive research into competitor strategies
