WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH:
We have launched an ever–evolving portfolio of data and technology-driven start-up ventures in the B2B space, ranging from early days pre-MVP to scaling with clear product-market fit and a strong pipeline of customers willing and excited to pay. These ventures require a dedicated and creative marketing and program management lead to develop their marketing and demand gen plans, and orchestrate and integrate the network of resources needed to execute, including an external agency of record, and Bain’s central marketing centers of excellence as needed e.g. creative, branding, digital media, CRM, email marketing, PR, events.
The Product Marketing Director will work with portfolio leadership to develop, manage and deploy marketing campaigns across the ventures and develop materials for use with portfolio leadership in marketing plan development e.g. marketing briefs, stakeholder questions, team processes. In particular, in integrating across the external agency and internal marketing centers, this role will act as ‘mission control’.
WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM:
This is a new role for an emerging group that requires someone to drive the development of new processes (rather than simply follow them) and get scrappy to make things happen quickly. We are looking for an experienced and practical product marketing partner who can look across the venture portfolio and identify patterns, prioritize needs, and help make decisions on the fly.
As a first-of-its-kind role at Bain, it requires someone who is comfortable with ambiguity and proactive in problem-solving, and comfortable jumping between different customer sets and marketing activities. The role will report to Bain’s head of Capability Marketing.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Lead marketing and program management across 7+ start-up ventures/products, proactively planning and supporting ongoing marketing needs
Develop brand positioning and marketing strategy to support commercial objectives
Building and executing a roadmap of experiments for new or optimized marketing programs for each venture and product
Creating and maintaining scalable, repeatable methods of measurement and performance tracking for campaigns
Reporting key marketing metrics to leadership
Establishing strong relationships with and offering ongoing thought partnership to key stakeholders in each venture
Lead connector, finding and marshalling the right resources and capabilities at the right time from central marketing centers of excellence and external agency of record
Translating the marketing programs and desired experiments for each product into an execution blueprint, in concert with external agency of record—this includes the creation of a consolidated quarterly marketing plan, development and socialization of marketing briefs, and on-going identification of channel asset/resource requirements for execution
Owning the agency of record relationship to ensure their resources are directed in the best way
Reducing complexity for venture stakeholders by acting as primary point of contact and communication
Lead portfolio-wide eyes-and-ears, providing critical input and recommendations to central portfolio leadership for how to prioritize requests and needs holistically among ventures
Synthesizing each venture’s roadmap up into a single source of truth that offers visibility into portfolio-wide needs, opportunities, and open decisions
Identifying areas of potential conflict or resource constraints and efficiently raising to portfolio and/or functional leadership
Making clear and actionable recommendations to guide decision making at the venture, portfolio, and firm levels
Lead developer of repeatable processes, harnessing patterns and learnings to craft a playbook that can be deployed with each new venture
Generating templates to quickly gather critical information from venture leaders to accelerate activities
Creating and refreshing an activity blueprint based on common venture features (e.g., marketing readiness level, product type, customer sharing)
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree a plus
At least 10 years direct & digital marketing, demand gen, and/or program management experience, preferably in B2B/SaaS industries
Proven track record of managing and growing internal client and partner relationships
Deep knowledge of digital & direct marketing strategy and working knowledge of key CRM and marketing automation platforms
Must be able to develop, write, and present strategic plans
Ability to lead a cross-functional team—creative, analytics/CRM, development, etc.
Experience managing P&L, forecasting, and portfolio performance
