The Director, Portfolio Programming role for Game Pass is one of the most exciting opportunities across gaming, tech and entertainment. This job offers a unique blend of execution, strategy and leadership opportunities and provides an opportunity to drive significant impact on a marquee service in a fast-changing category. In this role, you’ll be responsible for helping guide the portfolio that makes up Game Pass each month, and in the process, helping delight 25M+ members and create substantial value for the creators and publishers we work with month in and month out. You’ll help target and prioritize titles that we’d like to include in the service to guide our business development and partner teams, and you’ll help our marketing and product teams understand how to prioritize and support the wide range of titles that we add to the service on an ongoing basis. You’ll also be asked to manage and grow a high performing team, and help build a diverse and collaborative culture where everyone can do their best work.
From a skills standpoint, the Director of Portfolio Programming is an incredible chance to grow your general management acumen and end-to-end business leadership skills. It requires a mix of strategic thinking, strong execution, great storytelling and a proven ability to partner effectively across multiple teams and divisions. You’ll need to execute and make quick calls while understanding the customer, strategic and financial impact of those choices to ensure the best decision. You’ll combine quantitative and qualitative analysis to build holistic plans. You’ll also need to articulate the strategy for portfolio programming and drive clarity on our approach while you’re developing the strategy itself in real time – the ultimate “fly the plane as you’re building it” challenge. You’ll enjoy solving complex problems, developing decision frameworks to drive clarity, and working effectively with cross-functional teams in an environment that is constantly evolving.
Complex program management: build cross-org processes and guide cross-org v-teams with multiple stakeholders to deliver content needed to drive business goals, with the ability to anticipate and address likely challenges on the fly
Strategic storytelling: demonstrated ability to build and articulate strategic plans to senior audiences, drive clarity on key decisions and their rationale, and establish understanding of our portfolio planning approach.
Holistic decisionmaking: assess and prioritize content needs in a dynamic and fast-paced environment; evaluate trade-offs and drive to actionable outcomes, informed by quantitative and qualitative data
Process innovation: build a world-class process for managing a high-volume content pipeline and driving readiness across multiple fronts, including partner management, technical readiness, and marketing execution
Cross group collaboration & partnership: ability to influence the prioritization of key content investments and drive buy-in across multiple constituencies, including senior leaders across orgs
10+ years in program management, management consulting, corporate strategy, marketing, finance or product planning experience in technology sectors.
Proven experience in cross-org program management and execution of large-scale initiatives, with ability to successfully navigate roadblocks and challenges
Track record of navigating ambiguity to drive outcomes and clarity, as well as the demonstrated ability to teach others to do the same
Differentiated framing and creative problem-solving skills
Proven ability to build and manage high performing teams: experience attracting, retaining and developing great talent and helping them advance their career goals and skills preferred
Excellent communication (written and verbal) and analytical skills, including a track record of leading discussions with senior leaders to actionable decisions
Experience with building robust and scalable processes; a willingness to challenge the status quo & drive creative and unique solutions
A deep passion for learning about entertainment/gaming and subscriptions preferred
BA/BS degree or equivalent.
The salary for this role in the state of Colorado is between $157,300 and $236,300.
At Microsoft, certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
