Catalent Pharma Solutions Director Open Innovation in Boston, Massachusetts

The Role (daily responsibilities)

  • Define with Catalent BUs our technology roadmap including key areas of focus for technology innovation through external partnerships vs. internal R&D and review over Catalent strategic planning process

  • Lead detailed market and scientific landscape analysis related to new and emerging modalities to define timing and means to participate and keep a constant pulse

  • Develop and leverage a broad network to source technology opportunities across geographies and maximize our ability to detect emerging innovation s

  • Action and develop Catalent technology accelerator brand and continuous ly improve our ability to attract and capture external innovation s

  • Scout proactively for external technology innovation programs linked to our roadmap to build a robust funnel of opportunities

  • Operate a fast, agile and standardized process to screen technology opportunities and engage ad’hoc BU teams to assess actionability through exploring bespoke partnering models (collaboration and access, technology asset partnerships, acquisitions…)

  • Properly transition pre-selected and actionable opportunities to Catalent corporate innovation to lead formal due diligence and deal execution and corporate development for outright acquisition opportunities

  • Support corporate innovation in due diligence process to arrive at go/nogo decisions quickly

  • Track and manage selected external partnerships after program initiation and transition to Catalent BUs acting as a program sponsor and leading joint steering committees with external partners

  • Participate to continuous ly building and developing an innovation culture across the organization working closely with scientists from our network; develop an enabling environment to favor the emergence of next gene ration scientific leaders and innovative ideas

The Candidate (requirements)

  • Minimum MS degree, engineer, pharma cist in fields such as molecular biology (preferred)

  • Optionally, MBA or relevant graduate degree from top-tier institution or similar academic/professional experience

  • 10+ years of experience in external innovation s in the pharma ceutical industry is required; CDMO experience is preferred or experience working in the biotechnology field

  • Significant experience in scouting, identifying and sourcing external innovation s and building external partnerships, collaborations…

  • Track record of setting-up and managing successful partnerships and good knowledge of running technology accelerators

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the pharma ceutical and CDMO industry

  • Knowledge of the drug development process is preferred

  • Superior inter-personal and relationship building skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor

  • Excellent presentation skills, including strong oral and writing capabilities; ability to clearly communicate compelling messages to senior managers and external business partners
