State of Massachusetts Director of Government Affairs in Boston, Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Sheriffs Association (MSA) is actively seeking a visionary leader to fill the role of Director of Government Affairs. If you are passionate about reshaping the future of corrections, advancing modern training initiatives for corrections officers and deputy sheriffs, and advocating for innovative re-entry and community engagement programs, we want to hear from you. Responsibilities: 1. _Legislative Advocacy_: Lead the charge in representing the 14 elected sheriffs at legislative hearings, engaging with leadership in the House and Senate to influence policy that aligns with a 21st-century approach to corrections, incarceration, public safety and community engagement. 2. _Government Relations_: Develop and nurture relationships with legislative members and staff, judicial leaders and members of the governor's executive team. Effectively communicate and advance the interests of the Office of Sheriff in the modernization of correctional practices. 3. _Policy Development_: Collaborate with key stakeholders to propose and analyze policies that reflect a progressive vision for corrections. Stay abreast of advancements in the field and advocate for cutting-edge initiatives. 4. _Training Initiatives_: Champion the implementation of modern and advanced training programs for corrections officers and deputy sheriffs. Ensure that our public safety professionals are equipped with the latest tools and strategies to excel in their roles. Qualifications: * Proven experience in government affairs, legislative advocacy, or a related field. * In-depth knowledge of 21st-century corrections, re-entry initiatives, and modern training methodologies. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills. * Demonstrated ability to navigate legislative, judicial and executive processes and influence policy decisions.
