Merck Director of Digital Marketing Strategy and Analytics Realization Leader in Boston, Massachusetts

Job Description

New hires in office-based roles in the US & Puerto Rico will be required, subject to applicable law, to demonstrate that they have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or qualify for a medical or religious exemption to this vaccination requirement that can be accommodated without an undue burden to the operation. This is a true leader role. As the director, you are responsible for producing insights and recommendations that help the digital and brand marketers improve overall customer experience with all of our digital assets including content and web. This person plays a critical role in analytics implementation of customer experience across our digital properties including leading the work of customer experience with digital marketing strategy. In addition to traditional digital analytics responsibilities such as for measuring impacts of the campaigns that were driven to the website and prioritize the right work through analysis, reporting/dashboarding, experimentation and collaborating closely with Web analytic teams to establish analytic strategy by setting short- and long-term visions, articulating industry best practices and translating the vision into roadmaps and gaining buy-ins across the organization.

The preferred candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, consultative mindset, understanding of Digital Marketing Strategy and Analytics space and ability to identify best use of digital channels to creating a meaningful customer experience to grow the business. They will have demonstrated consistently strong leadership skills, an ability to work both independently and with a team. They will empower a growth mindset and inspire a culture of continuous learning. This role will require interfacing and collaborating with many teams so strong communication skills is a must. Individuals who will thrive in this role are motivated by developing a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical business and possess an ability to define and translate objectives and business questions into analytical problems that require advanced and scalable analytical solutions that produce actionable insights.

Primary Tasks:

  • Deep understanding of the commercial Digital Marketing Strategy and Analytics.

  • Exceptional storyteller who can take complex solution and boil it down to “so what” and gain buy-ins across the organization.

  • As the Digital Marketing Expert, create learning plans and curriculums to be rolled out across the organization to increase digital IQ across all parts of the organization.

  • Understand stakeholders' priorities and help build solutions that support business objectives through effective translation from business to analytics and vice-versa.

  • Create vision and roadmap of the group. Able to “sell” the vision and gain buy-in across the organization and elevate the teams’ visibility.

  • Excellent problem solver and organization navigator by establishing and managing close relationships with stakeholders.

  • Staying on top of current industry trends and best practices in digital media, channel and analytics.

  • Ability to lead agile working teams and cross-functional stakeholder groups.

  • Contribute to innovative experiments, specifically to idea generation, idea incubation and/or experimentation.

  • Travel may be (<25%).

  • Able to synthesize data into simple actionable insights to influence Marketing and Digital Teams to make more data-informed decisions. Create a story with a clear payoff.

  • Must be comfortable operating in a highly ambiguous environment.

  • Work with Brand Marketing, Web capability and Digital Marketing teams to understand business objectives in order to develop appropriate measurement and advise on optimizing marketing strategy.

  • Strong change agent and agile practitioner.

  • Expertise in identifying KPIs to Measure Performance and Adoption.

  • Ability to Identify and Scale Digital Best Practices throughout the Organization.

Knowledge & Education:

  • 10+ years of progressive B2B/ B2C/B2B2C related working Knowledge or equivalent, including experience developing growth strategies.

  • 10+ years direct people management with responsibility for performance management, talent development and coaching.

  • 10+ years' in E-commerce/digital analytics or equivalent experience.

  • Proven ability to perform in-depth analysis, synthesize results, develop stories, build strategies and make recommendations to business and technical leaders.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Science, Economics, Business, Information Technology or Engineering. Advanced degree is a plus.

  • Strong knowledge in at least two of the following areas:

  • Data visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, Dataroma, Domo

  • Digital marketing, including click attribution, impression tracking, customer journey

  • Structured programming language such as SQL, Python, R, etc.
