Citizens Bank's Corporate Strategy & Development Group sets the strategic agenda and direction for the company and acts as a trusted advisor to senior leadership (CEO, CFO, Presidents of businesses, and other members of the Executive Leadership Team). The team addresses high impact strategic issues across the banks portfolio of businesses, works with business leaders to develop and execute against strategic roadmaps, and identifies and executes against Corporate Development / M&A opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Articulating and aligning M&A strategy: Drive ongoing thought leadership to establish, refine and align M&A strategy with corporate and business unit strategy; work alongside business leaders and executive team to identify new challenges/problems for which M&A may be a solution; identify and communicate potential options; get alignment for change

  • Managing the pipeline of potential opportunities: Establish good relationships with bankers and other third parties for potential deal flow; constantly monitor the broader deal landscape for opportunities, competitive implications and valuation implications; actively prioritize and manage opportunities through initial screening; coordinate closely with business partners in opportunity evaluation

  • Analyzing and leading corporate development activities: Review and model the impact of various M&A, balance sheet, capital, and strategic partnership strategies; lead due diligence, valuation modeling and financial analysis of deals and initiatives and manage the governance process with key stakeholders up to and including integration readiness

  • Leading high-priority programs/initiatives: Manage initiatives critical to the success of the enterprise – recent initiatives include structuring partnership deals, corporate finance projects, balance sheet optimization strategies

  • Enhancing the capabilities of Corporate Development: Assist in the development of more formalized approaches, processes and tools to manage the broader corporate development lifecycle

  • Influencing stakeholders: This role will interact frequently with senior leaders of the enterprise including presidents of the businesses, CFO, and CEO and will need to influence these senior stakeholders

Development Opportunities:

The position provides an opportunity to take on a highly visible role in a fast-paced and growing organization. It will allow the individual to develop and hone the application of strategic thinking to M&A while developing deep expertise in topics including retail banking, commercial banking, technology, finance, and risk management.

This individual will have an opportunity to develop relationships across the firm including Citizen’s business units, marketing, finance, technology/digital, retail, treasury, and risk management. It will allow the individual to practice influencing and leadership in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Experience in a financial institutions group (FIG) of an investment bank (5+ years) – Vice President or equivalent role

  • Experience “quarterbacking” deals: financial modeling, organizing due diligence across key functional areas, helping negotiate and construct LOIs, purchase agreements, familiarity with legal documents, transaction types and considerations

  • Ability to identify and source M&A opportunities that fit strategically; ability to syndicate rationale internally and generate buy-in

  • Exposure and passion for financial markets, banking, technology/digital, and solving problems

  • An understanding of the regulatory environment facing banking institutions (e.g., Basel III, CCAR stress tests, liquidity coverage ratio) and its implications on strategic decision-making

  • Passionate, highly motivated, self-driven, and a strong orientation to change

  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to influence senior leadership

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint

Preferred:

  • Experience in corporate and business strategy at a financial services institution and/or at a management consulting firm (3+ years)

Hours & Work Schedule

Hours per Week: 40

Work Schedule: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Monday - Friday
