SCHEDULE: 40 hours, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., evening, weekend events and holidays as required
Pine Street Inn, New England's largest homeless services organization, seeks an enthusiastic candidate for its busy marketing/communications office. Our office is accessible by public transportation (in Boston-s South End).
Working with and reporting to the Director of Communications, the Director of Content is a key member of the communications team. Together with the Communications Director, s/he is responsible for developing the organization-s overall content strategy, and developing compelling written content for print, online, media relations, and fundraising communications to tell the story of Pine Street Inn in engaging ways that motivate donors, the general public, and government officials to make change to improve the lives of the poor and homeless. The ideal candidate should be team-oriented, creative, flexible, efficient, and have a -roll up your sleeves- mindset.

The Director has demonstrated experience in, and a passion for:
Finding great stories: Conceptualizing news and features stories that will engage audiences, be shared on social channels, and motivate action.
Writing crisp, error-free content for online and print publications.
Writing great headlines and email subject lines that compel engagement with content.
Writing content for a wide variety of media, including print newsletters, brochures, e-newsletters, websites, videos, annual reports, press releases, fundraising appeals, major donor presentations, op-eds, speeches and talking points, President-s messages and PowerPoint presentations.
Working with and interviewing a highly diverse group of clients.
Managing freelancer designers and writers.
Coordinating complex print and digital projects, including the hiring of freelancers, coordinating design, photography and content reviews, and resolving any conflicts that arise during the review process.
Editing and proofreading the content of others.
Producing final products that are high quality and error-free on tight deadlines.
Juggling multiple projects simultaneously.
Producing e-newsletters using Blackbaud Luminate or similar platforms; tracking open and click through rates and making adjustments to content in response to that data
The chosen candidate will produce:
Twice-monthly e-newsletter circulated to 18,000 PSI supporters
Three-times yearly print newsletter for 40,000+ PSI supporters
Specialty periodic communications for high-end donors
Yearly annual report
Regular content updates for the website, including features on programs and clients, special events, and volunteer efforts
Plans and content for increasing Pine Street Inn-s visibility as it approaches its 50th anniversary in 2019
Press releases as requested
OpEds as requested
Speeches and talking points for President and events as requested
Design for simple flyers/posters/brochures/social media graphics
Press follow-up as requested
Assistance with holiday/event preparations
In all cases the Director of Content will ensure content maintains the style, tone and messaging consistent with Pine Street Inn-s overall messaging platform.
The chosen candidate will also work collaboratively with the Director of Digital Media as requested to:
Analyze the effectiveness of e-publications and website content and make adjustments to improve open and click rates.
Develop scripts for video and audio projects
The chosen candidate will also work collaboratively with the organization-s fundraising team as requested to:
- Develop fundraising collateral including campaign case statements, donor relations materials and reports, donor appeals, fact sheets on funding needs, donor proposals, invitations for events, and talking points for events.
The Director of Content will liaise frequently with members of the Development team, PSI program staff, and PSI guests and tenants. The ideal candidate will be successful in working with individuals from all walks of life, and will have strong interpersonal skills as well as a culturally competent approach to soliciting and telling the stories of our guests and clients.
5-7 years of related experience
Bachelor-s degree, preferably in communications, marketing, or a related discipline
Experience managing print and digital projects, including newsletters, for a nonprofit or for-profit organization
Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills
Experience using content management systems
Strong analytical, technical, and project management skills
Experience working on multiple projects and completing high-quality work under tight deadlines
Design experience using Adobe Creative Suite, (especially InDesign), for projects such as simple flyers and posters. (More complex projects are handled by freelance designers).
