Alexion Pharmaceuticals Director, MSL Lead East in Boston, Massachusetts
The Director (SD), MSL is responsible for leading and establishing strategy and direction for Regional Therapeutic Team of MSL professionals, including accountability for attainment of US clinical and business objectives in the US Medical Affairs (USMA) Team. The position requires integration and cross- functional involvement within GMA, Commercial, R&D, Regulatory, and other lines of Alexion business for synergistic business opportunities and is responsible for quantifying and reporting MSL impact on organizational goals and business objectives.
In summary, the SD is responsible for leading and aligning the MSL team and their objectives to franchise strategic objectives and ensuring field medical operational excellence.
Lead and direct Medical Science Liaison (MSL) field team in support of Neurology therapeutic area
Establish vision, strategy, and goals for MSL team that are aligned nationally and globally with cross-functional strategies
Provide leadership, insight, and strategy to neurology, collaborating across functions to ensure the highest level of medical education for internal and external stakeholders that maximize patient outcomes
Appropriate allocation of MSL resources to delivers results on medical strategies
Financially accountable for operating expenses/budget and GMA resources specific to the MSL group.
Build organization that reflects a diverse workforce, establish a productive work environment, by creating trust and respect within the group, and establishes self as a business partner.
Maintains high visibility and open communication to entire field based MSL team, supporting retention of top talent for Alexion.
Quantify and report MSL value and impact on organizational goals and business objectives
Manages Performance Management process, development planning and succession planning for designated MSL team.
Always maintain regulatory and compliance expertise on internal and external regulatory practices.
Keeps all interactions and materials "audit ready" and conducts regular management audits of the team’s activities
Direct activities with potential high risk and accountable for compliance education and execution as well as documentation and audit readiness.
Works in partnership with all applicable cross- functional areas to meet relevant corporate business goals associated with global marketed products and the global pipeline.
Demonstrate the appropriate leadership, direction, and accountability for neurology field team:
Maintains proactive and responsible communication within the Neurology (TA), Clinical Development, Commercial, Business Development and other internal stakeholders, as it relates to MSL activities/ outcomes that support the achievement of business objectives.
Represents the designated therapeutic MSL team on the TA Franchise.
Clinical and business competency of MSLs in a designated therapeutic area; to include training and development. Ensures the competency of each MSL as it relates to regulations, guidelines, and clinical/scientific information.
Attends appropriate scientific meetings to maintain TA expertise. Ensures that all major medical congresses and scientific forums of interest are covered in entirety by MSLs and subsequent executive summaries and resources are shared globally throughout the organization.
Responsible oversight for the dissemination of scientific information within all corporate, regulatory and compliance guidelines. Recruitment and retention of key talent for Alexion.
Ongoing analysis of clinical and market trends to develop key supporting strategies to meet business objectives.
Proactively analyzes business needs working in conjunction with the clinical/commercial organizations to identify opportunities where MSL function enhances business results.
Responsible for competitive intelligence gathering and communicating summaries that can provide critical information that can affect the development programs, as well as marketed products.
Aligns opinion leader relationships with the needs of GMA/Commercial/R&D on an ongoing basis.
Interfaces with other MSL Senior Director across Alexion businesses to insure standardization and consistency of MSL role. Continue to identify opportunities to align MSL clinical resources globally, minimizing costs and increasing efficiencies.
10+ years of industry related experience with demonstrated leadership success in a pharmaceutical or Biotech Company required.
Minimum 6 years of management experience overseeing field resources
