How you will make an impact?

Our Genetic Sciences Division is at the forefront of innovation for genetic analysis research and clinical applications. The Capillary Electrophoresis (CE) Business Unit is a key platform within the division. The Director, CE Instruments and Software Product Management, will lead the CE Instruments and Software Product Management team and the CE BU Global Marketing team. Key responsibilities will include product strategy and roadmap, product definition, new product introductions, product improvements, management of external product development relationship, life cycle management and global marketing for all CE products. This Director will operate as a General Manager for their portfolio by collaborating with all business functions to ensure their products meet and exceed our customers’ expectations. The role will report to the VP/GM of CE Platform and is a great development opportunity if you’re interested in a General Manager career path.

What will you do?

Key Attributes for consideration:

Strategic Mindset

  • Develops and executes upon a global technology and product road map for the life cycle of current and new products for all addressable markets (Core and Verticals). Knows life science market, understands customer applications, customer segments, market drivers, challenges and outlook.

Operational Execution (Leveraging Scale)

  • Global mindset. Understands and has experience operating in a global environment. Experience with multiple business segments and functions. Leverages broad experiences to solve complex business problems.

  • Ability to lead cross functional teams to drive all aspects of current product delivery and new product introductions.

  • Strong business acumen. Uses KPIs and customer data to gain insight, drive decision making, adapt strategies & tactics and to identify opportunities in a mature business. Accountable for and holds appropriate colleagues accountable for all aspects of the CE Instrument and Software business from revenue to profitability.

Customer Centric Commercial Acumen:

  • Makes decisions keeping customer first focus, solves on-market customer issues with high sense of urgency

  • Utilizes experience and understanding of customer needs to drive development and delivery of products to market. Understands the customers’ mindset and what drives customers throughout the buying process. Leverages understanding to bring insights to R&D and Operations teams.

  • Ability to manage KOL relationships and knowledge of how to leverage customer collaborations to drive revenue. Builds strong internal/external relationships; master communicator.

Collaborative / Influencing:

  • Based on depth of cross-functional/geographic knowledge, proactively collaborates/communicates in a highly matrixed* environment to drive to alignment; builds strong internal/external relationships; master communicator

  • Able to lead and manage external partner relationship with HHT to achieve mutual business goals. Understands cultural nuances of working with a large Japanese company and acts accordingly. Brings this understanding to other internal team members to better support relationship

  • Takes calculated risks, measures results and adjusts accordingly. Learns from failure

People Leadership/Change Management

  • Builds a great team and great culture. Ability to lead, motivate, hire, coach and develop a product marketing team to achieve common goals. Decisive leader with ability to lead and empower teams to develop impactful strategies and action plans and drive for results. Champion for the CE Platform business. Challenges status quo to bring improvements and new ideas to the CE business

How will you get here?


  • Bachelor’s degree required preferably in sciences, businesses, economics or other related field. MBA, similar experience, or related advanced degree, desired.

Experience, knowledge, skills, abilities :

  • Leadership experience leading, developing and building successful teams.

  • Demonstrated success working in a global matrixed-environment.

  • Strong customer/quality orientation with demonstrated ability to effectively build and manage customer and partner relationships at a senior level

  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated ability to understand, analyze and assimilate complex issues, draw correct conclusions, prioritize and formulate clear strategy and initiatives

  • Ability to attract, recruit, develop and retain hi-potential talent

  • Demonstrates passion and enthusiasm for an organization’s vision, and motivates, leads, and empowers others to achieve organizational goals

  • Strong presence; capacity to influence and promote enthusiasm and support through verbal, written and presentation communications skills

  • Demonstrates courage - Be bold; don’t back off from challenges and stand up for what you believe in; take action; persevere & stay the course; dare to push forward

  • Willingness to travel up to 25%, both domestic and internationally, as required
