Catalent Pharma Solutions Director, Corporate Innovation in Boston, Massachusetts
Position Title: Director, Corporate Innovation
Location: Field/Remote
Position Summary
The Director Corporate Innovation will be a key architect of Catalent external technology (development, delivery and manufac turing) collaborations, partnerships, in-licensing and acquisitions due diligence and transaction implementation across existing, new and emerging modalities (small molecules , biologics , cell, gene and nucleic acid therapies).
The Director Corporate Innovation will be a very influential business and scientific leader implementing investments in new and disruptive technologies as a strategy and growth tool. Position will be part of Catalent Strategy and Corporate Development group and will report to Catalent Vice President Corporate Innovation .
The Role (daily responsibilities)
Coordinate due diligence and transaction implementation process from initial opportunity being identified, created, assessed and selected by Catalent Open and / or Corporate Innovation to closure
Work with BU, central teams and external parties to support due diligence levels and market evaluation
Build business cases and deal model with BU and central teams
Propose final structure for detailed collaboration, co-development, partnership, in-licensing, technology acquisition agreements and conduct negotiation of corresponding agreements.
Work with Legal and IP teams, as well as external counsel and attorney to enable and structure deals
Build written materials and presentations on collaboration, partnership, in-licensing… opportunities to support our investment thesis and seek approval
Work with Corporate Development function for deals related to outright acquisitions of technology-based assets
Support Open Innovation team to create Catalent BUs technology roadmap as part of our annual strategic planning process
Support senior leadership in defining and resolving major strategic questions
Manage selected strategic partnerships and alliances post transaction approval and deal closure
The Candidate (requirements)
MBA or relevant graduate degree from top-tier institution or similar academic/professional experience
MS degree, engineer, pharma cist in fields such as molecular biology (preferred)
5 - 10 years of transaction experience in external innovation in pharma ceutical industry or biotech industry; experience in strategic partnerships involving biotech, pharma companies, and/or Institutions is a plus, CDMO experience is a plus.
Significant experience in coordinating due diligence, building and negotiating partnership and/or in-licensing deals, elaborating business cases and financial models and all aspects of transactions
Significant experience in setting-up and managing successful partnerships
Deep knowledge of IP environment
Understanding of the biotech, pharma and CDMO industry with knowledge of drug development process
Experience with multiple and bespoke deal models (ie collaborations, in-licensing, build-to-buy companies…)
Ability to convert opportunity into closed deal
Ability to coordinate projects with multiple workstreams, with proven leadership success over a wide variety of functional business problems
Superior inter-personal and relationship building skills, problem-solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor
Excellent presentation skills, including strong oral and writing capabilities; ability to clearly communicate compelling messages to senior managers and external business partners
