The Direct Response Marketing Officer primary responsibilities:

  • Manages day-to-day operations of sustainer program, including acquisition efforts such as telemarketing and canvassing, serving as the point person for donors and vendor partners.

  • Monitors and analyzes sustainer performance across all channels, and makes strategy and creative recommendations for the enhancement of the program.

  • Researches and identifies trends in sustainer programs and bring new ideas to the team; surfaces under-utilized opportunities in other channels and initiatives to support sustainer goals.

  • Drives short and long term marketing strategies for the retention and upgrading of one-time ($1-$9,999) donors. Evaluates program results and optimizes as needed.

  • Provides quality control of campaign materials; help develop, review and edit letters, cards, brochures, emails, ads and other communications as requested.

  • Partners with direct response agency to ensure that mail and phone campaigns are high quality, on time and on budget.

  • Collaborates with BCH communications and digital teams to implement strategies.

  • Serves as back-up for all relevant functions of the direct response team.

    Minimum Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of three years progressive experience in fundraising, direct response marketing, or nonprofit management, or equivalent experience is required.

  • Experience with monthly donor/sustainer program management and/or marketing is preferred.

  • Experience working on face to face or street canvassing programs designed to solicit donations.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, marketing and writing skills.

  • Strong strategy development and execution abilities to collaborate with peers and external vendors to run an effective and net efficient marketing program.

  • Consistent attention to detail, high level of productivity, solution-oriented performer who can be responsive to both staff and donor issues.

  • Ability to effectively present scientific, clinical, research and medical information and make it accessible to large numbers of donors and potential supporters.

  • Strong technical skills in generic software programs (Microsoft Excel, Office & PowerPoint), understanding of gift processes, with the ability to develop proficiency in specific database management systems. Blackbaud CRM or similar database knowledge preferred.
