This role will work with fundraisers, researchers, content experts in Communications and Strategic Giving and the Office of the President/CEO to draft correspondence for the Trust’s most generous donors and promising prospects, including meeting follow-ups and special invitations. They will also contribute to short- and long-term stewardship strategies, proofread and copyedit correspondence written by Trust colleagues as needed, and maintain accurate records in the CRM database.

The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, demonstrate a high level of professionalism, and understand the importance of using discretion when working with donor and patient records and other sensitive material. In addition, candidates should be proactive and feel comfortable working with senior staff to ensure timely communication with donors.

This Development Writer will:

  • Manage process, from intake through mailing and record keeping, for ad hoc development correspondence from the President/CEO and other hospital leaders.

  • Work quickly and decisively to craft, write, revise, and produce timely letters, emails, and other development correspondence for the President/CEO and other leaders. Use good judgment and understanding of hospital/Trust priorities to determine messaging for correspondence.

  • Write briefing materials (meeting goals, talking points, and high-level summary emails) for the President/CEO and other leaders for meetings and/or events with highly-rated prospects.

  • Prepare high-level communications materials for select prospect events and leadership projects.

  • Identify and work with appropriate Gift Officers and staff to coordinate communications. Communicate regularly with other writers to coordinate data flow, increase productivity and eliminate duplication.

  • Create personalized leadership gift acknowledgments for a portfolio of top-level donors. Research donor records and perform thorough reviews of donor’s relationships using internal and external resources.

  • Maintain departmental standards for quality, accuracy, and on-time delivery of correspondence by following established editorial policies and procedures and demonstrating proactivity and persistence when necessary.

  • Ensure that correspondence delivered to the President/CEO and other leaders for signature is error-free and that content, grammar, and style conform to departmental standards and gift accuracy.

  • Maintain accurate incoming and outgoing correspondence records in CRM database.

    To qualify, you must have:

  • BA degree plus at least 3 years of related experience

  • Successful experience managing and prioritizing a high volume of deadlines in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining high standards of accuracy.

  • Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly. Must be analytical, good at organizing and synthesizing data, and technically savvy.

  • Exceptional writing skills, proven ability to write in another person’s voice, and in-depth understanding of English grammar and usage.

  • Must be detail oriented and an accurate proofreader with experience giving and receiving constructive feedback.

  • Analytic and research skills to gather and determine essential data from a variety of written and individual sources.

  • Proven ability to work independently and in coordination with teammates. Must be able to complete assignments with a minimum amount of supervision.
