Job Description

The Development Assistant, Corporate & Foundation Relations (CFR) reports to the Director, Corporate & Foundation Relations, with functional supervision by CFR officers as assigned. The Development Assistant works alongside fundraisers, university colleagues and external constituents to develop, support and maintain programs and activities consistent with securing philanthropic support for the university. Primary responsibilities include: assisting with the preparation of proposals and reports, completing transmittal forms for pledges and gifts received including collaborating with the advancement gift processing unit and the Office for Sponsored Programs, filing proposals/funding reports/visit reports, drafting gift acknowledgments, making travel arrangements, and researching corporate and foundation funders. Done well, these tasks assist CFR officers in identifying and soliciting the most desirable prospects and donors. Development assistants also support the work associated with faculty and administrators, external constituents’ visits to campus, meetings, and special events. Given the extensive independent contact with university officials and faculty as well as external constituents, this position requires strong interpersonal and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy; professional demeanor; excellent oral and written communications skills; and complete discretion regarding the handling and storing of confidential data.

Positions in the CFR unit provide support for 2-3 CFR officers. Fundraising work in this unit is focused on supporting academic units across the university through the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities of foundations and corporations for funding of $50,000-$1,000,000+.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $39,500 to $49,400; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

This position requires 2-3 years of increasingly responsible administrative experience in a professional setting; strong interpersonal and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy; excellent oral and written communications skills including effective phone communication skills; accurate typing skills; a working knowledge of Windows PC, including Microsoft Office; exceptional proofreading; strong attention to detail; a commitment to accuracy; and very adept at handling multiple tasks and working well within deadlines. Also requires good judgment, discretion in handling confidential materials, ability to work independently without close supervision, and flexibility to work beyond the regular hours of the workday when necessary. Candidate must possess solid knowledge of grammar and punctuation.

Requires a high school diploma, bachelor’s degree preferred. Candidates should be highly motivated to work in a fast paced environment that will require some night and evening work. Must be a team player who is highly motivated and dedicated to the goals of advancing higher education. An appreciation for Jesuit Catholic education and the goals and values of Boston College is critical. A desire to build a career in advancement is a plus.
