State Street Design Director in Boston, Massachusetts

Be part of a team that is driving high-impact brand marketing and communications programs for State Street Global Advisors – the asset management division of State Street, the third largest asset manager and creator of the world’s first ETFs.

In this role, you will play an integral role in helping to design and drive adoption of a new brand strategy and visual identity across the organization. You will be responsible for working with designers, business leaders, marketing colleagues and agencies to help drive the new brand positioning and design system across platforms including web, social media, sales and marketing materials and key corporate assets.

Primary Responsibilities

  • You will work closely with the Creative Director to implement and evolve the new visual identity system
  • Lead a team of designers; responsible for overseeing design work from brief to final execution
  • Produce innovative, expressive and purposeful design
  • Ensure our visual identity is consistently implemented across firm-wide communications
  • Commission and art direct illustrators, animators and photographers
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to develop compelling data visualization that will be used across a broad range of outputs (digital and print)
  • Work with the Creative Director to improve creative workflow process and internal operations

Skills, Qualities and Requirements

  • 6+ years of graphic/visual design experience
  • Experience managing a team of designers
  • Highly knowledgeable in both print and digital execution techniques
  • Ability to express your ideas visually and verbally to internal teams; ability to influence
  • Precise design skills with a strong focus on typography
  • Obsessive attention to detail
  • Ability to self-manage schedules of numerous concurrent design projects
  • Team player who enjoys and values collaboration and feedback
  • Ability to distill complicated concepts and data into easily digestible, visual bites
  • Outstanding design portfolio
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or an equivalent
  • Exceptional working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office programs is a plus
  • Proficiency in coding (e.g. HTML, CSS, javascript) is a plus
  • Experience with video and multimedia is a plus
