New England Aquarium Corporation Creative & Editorial Director in Boston, Massachusetts

The Creative Director will set the creative direction for all Aquarium communications and lead and direct the efforts of design, editorial, and digital staff. This role will manage design and editorial teams that drive creative consistency, compelling storytelling, and a mission-based brand narrative across digital, print, graphics, web, and exhibits and signage. The Creative Director will work closely with the VP of Marketing and Communications, the Director of Marketing and Communications, and various departments, and be responsible for aligning creative/messaging strategies and oversight of all aspects of editorial and creative work. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Concepts and executes a range of original creative ideas for assigned projects and supports them confidently with rationale grounded in the creative brief. Oversees the development of strategic content to highlight key Aquarium initiatives and activities to a variety of audiences internally and externally. Provides leadership on design trends and strategy principals. Delivers hands-on execution and timely turn-around of multiple projects of varying scope and complexity with strong attention to detail and accuracy. Contributes to advertising messaging and design work done by outside firm. Drives internal awareness of design trends, advertising technologies, innovative media, and shifts in pop culture to ensure the creation of relevant and useful communications, materials and branding. Manages, mentors, and inspires the creative and editorial teams, providing leadership, direction, and development for future career growth. Carefully administers budgets per project and makes sure all projects are delivered on time and within budget. Directs and helps design multimedia work, including email templates, display ads, videos, assets and social media posts. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Training and Experience Bachelor's degree in communications, graphic design, visual communications preferred. Minimum of 8 years of documented experience in communications and creative services with 5 years of people management experience. Experience in a non-profit and/or a conservation oriented environment preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Experienced with visual brand standards, design systems, and integrated communications strategies. Experienced with concepting, story-telling, and design execution for print and digital platforms. Demonstrated strategic thinker comfortable in applying strategy to creative, evaluating creative and giving direction to strengthen creative. Experienced in planning, prioritizing, organizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously through project-management and creative development processes. Knowledge of and comfort with the evolving media landscape and media consumption habits. Team player with the ability to collaborate with colleagues from a wide range of areas. Solid leadership skills with proven ability to lead, inspire, mentor, train, and support teams. Professional-level design software mastery (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Outstanding portfolio showcasing design strengths in brand identity and packaging design.
