Meta Consumer Product Strategist - Competition Economist in Boston, Massachusetts

Summary:

The Consumer Product Strategy & Insights team's mission is to drive strategic decisions that produce long-term growth for Meta Platforms, Inc.We do so by closely understanding and monitoring trends driving our industry, identifying consumer needs, adding structure to ambiguous problems, and framing key decisions for our leaders. We work closely with product leaders and other cross-functional teams to define and translate our work into actionable insights to influence the long-term product roadmap. As strategists, we are passionate about leveraging quantitative and qualitative signals to inform strategy. We are looking for a talented Competition Economist to join our team. Successful candidates for this position will be proficient in industrial organization and econometrics and the ability to leverage that knowledge to understand Meta’s product landscape, including trends, players, technologies, and underlying dynamics. The successful candidate will work on key regulatory, legal and economic themes, including supporting the company on competition economic analysis in regulatory proceedings and litigation. They will partner with cross-functional teams and communicate their insights and recommendations to product leaders and executives. This is a unique opportunity for an outstanding economist with strong quantitative and communications skills to be at the center of some of the most important policy and product issues of our age.

Required Skills:

Consumer Product Strategist - Competition Economist Responsibilities:

  1. Work closely with the company’s Legal teams to support Meta in cases, conduct analyses of its business, respond to government and international agencies’ queries and data requests, prepare evidence for court filings, and support the teams by applying competition economic analysis

  2. Collaborate with product leaders and cross-functional teams, including Policy, Communications, Product, User Research, Analytics, Partnerships, Privacy and Corporate Development

  3. apply economic thinking to inform internal discussions and decisions on product and policy strategies aligned with Meta’s mission

  4. Act as a dedicated nexus of collaboration with outside partners, including academics, consulting companies and outside counsels, to oversee the development of competition economic analyses

  5. Rigorously design, test and validate market, product and company hypotheses

  6. conduct sophisticated research and analysis on market trends, user behaviors, and competitors using a range of both internal and external data sources

  7. lead the collection and analysis of data in the context of regulatory proceedings

  8. Act as a thought leader and trusted adviser on competition economics within the company, nurturing connections with key scholars, practitioners and influencers in the field and engaging in the key debates on technology from an economic perspective

  9. Effectively present and communicate actionable insights and recommendations to executives, business leaders, and cross-functional partners

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in a directly related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  2. Master's degree in Economics or equivalent, with a focus on industrial organization, econometrics and antitrust economics

  3. 3+ years of experience in regulatory and litigation proceedings at an economic consulting firm, technology company or regulatory agency

  4. Experience in econometric modeling, statistical analyses and experiments using established statistical software (e.g. Stata R),experience in data querying and manipulation, including using basic knowledge of relevant languages (e.g. SQL)

  5. Demonstrated leadership, collaboration and communication skills

  1. PhD degree in Economics or equivalent, with a focus on industrial organization, econometrics and antitrust economics

  2. 8+ years of combined experience in each of economic consulting, technology firm, and frontline enforcement agency roles contributing to regulatory and litigation proceedings, as well as influencing competition enforcement frameworks

  3. Proficiency in econometric modeling and statistical analysis (e.g. Stata R), as well as advanced knowledge of data querying and manipulation tools (e.g. SQL Python)

  4. Exceptional leadership, collaboration and communication skills, demonstrated experience in presenting to leadership and influencing business decisions
