Description

Position Overview:

The Community Engagement and Recruitment Manager reports to the Associate Medical Research Director and is a key member of TFI's BioMed department, responsible for developing and implementing strategies to recruit and retain study participants across multiple clinical trials. This role requires a deep understanding of the diverse communities served by TFI and a commitment to advancing health equity. The Manager will also supervise recruitment and outreach staff, coordinate community engagement efforts, and serve as the Boston Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) Community Advisory Board (CAB) organizer and community liaison.

Work Environment:

  • This position requires frequent travel within the Boston area to engage with community partners and attend events. Travel costs are covered by the organization.

  • Some evening and weekend work may be required to accommodate community events and CAB meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

Participant Recruitment:

  • Lead the development and execution of community education, outreach, and recruitment strategies for the clinical research site

  • Cultivates and maintains strategic relationships with community partners to enhance awareness of HIV treatment and prevention research, fostering trust and participation in research studies

  • Collaborates closely with study teams to design and implement outreach initiatives that drive study enrollment and participant engagement

  • Organizes and manages community and agency events, forums, and activities, promoting transparent and meaningful collaboration between the community and The Fenway Institute

Community Engagement:

  • Foster relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to promote awareness of clinical trials.

  • Organize and participate in community events, presentations, and other outreach activities to educate the public about clinical trials and the importance of participation.

  • Serve as the liaison between TFI and the Boston HPTN CTU's CAB, organizing meetings, facilitating communication, and ensuring community input in research activities.

CAB Coordination:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the Boston CTU CAB.

  • Plan and facilitate regular CAB meetings, ensuring that community voices are represented in the design and conduct of clinical trials.

  • Maintain communication with CAB members, providing updates on research activities and responding to concerns or inquiries.

  • Conduct Research Visits:

  • Train on research study protocols and procedures, including Good Clinical Practice, phlebotomy (blood collection), and other study-specific trainings.

  • Conduct research visit procedures, including data collection, phlebotomy, rapid laboratory testing, visit charting, document quality control, and risk-reduction or adherence counseling.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate records of recruitment activities, community engagement efforts, and CAB interactions.

  • Prepare reports on recruitment outcomes and community engagement activities for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Assist in the development of promotional materials and other resources to support recruitment and engagement efforts.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in community engagement, participant recruitment, or a related role in a research or healthcare setting. Strong understanding of the social and cultural dynamics within diverse communities, particularly those served by TFI.

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, social sciences, or a related field.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and engage with diverse populations.

  • Ability to work harmoniously and effectively with colleagues, patients, clients and vendors across the spectrum of diversity, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, color, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, national origin and immigrant status, religious or spiritual identity, disability (physical, mental, emotional and developmental), veteran status, and/or limited English proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in public health, non-profit management, or other social science field preferred.

  • Knowledge of clinical trial processes and ethical considerations in participant recruitment.

  • Familiarity with the role and responsibilities of Community Advisory Boards in research settings.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with data management systems (REDCap, etc..)

    This is a union position in a Fenway Health bargaining unit represented by 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.
