Communications Manager Position: Communications Manager - Office of Development Department: Communications AND Engagements Schedule: Full Time POSITION SUMMARY: Boston Medical Center (BMC) is the essential health care safety-net hospital for the greater Boston community and a national leader in creating programs and services for socially and medically complex patient populations. The BMC Office of Development raises $100 million annually for programs and essential services for the hospital through individual, corporate, and foundation donors and through government grants. Boston Medical Center is seeking a Development Communications Manager for the Development Communications and Donor Engagement team. This position will report to the Director of Communication and Donor Engagement and will serve as the primary content strategist for the individual giving team. Working in close partnership with the Director of Major Gifts, the Communications Manager will support the communications needs of individual giving, planned giving, and annual giving goals and initiatives. Competitive candidates will have proven experience in development communications with the ability to lead and contribute to content strategy conversations and bring ideas full circle to fulfillment: scoping deliverables, managing timelines and stakeholder approvals, coordinating and completing interviews with patients, researchers, and clinicians, and completing a variety of deliverables on time and budget. We are looking for gifted storytellers-strategic thinkers and exceptional writers who can deliver on-brand, jargon-free content that moves our audience to action. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: ? Develop communications content in support of team and department-wide needs; deliverables may include proposals, case statements, reports, sales sheets, videos, PowerPoint presentations, talking points and more. ? Serve as a strategic partner to the individual giving team, developing and implementing communications plans in support of team goals. ? In collaboration with the annual fund manager, support direct mail fundraising and stewardship efforts through story sourcing, content gathering (video, photo), and editing for grammar and branding. ? Support emerging communications needs as the department continues to grow its portfolio of programs in legacy giving and major gift stewardship. ? Serve as a primary liaison to the editor of Health City, BMC's online publishing platform; contribute stories to the platform and mine stories to repurpose for development needs. ? Serve as a key contributor to the Inspire newsletter . ? Play a lead role in the development of a content library for department-wide use. Knowledge and Skills: ? Donor-centric development communications professional with proven experience in development communications in healthcare, education, or social services nonprofit ? Ability to understand science and technology content and the skill to translate it into compelling stories and information for a lay audience ? Ability to prioritize, highly-organized and detail-oriented project manager ? Flexible mindset and can-do attitude; natural collaborator ? Takes initiative and functions effectively, both independently and as a member of a team ? Excellent attention to detail ? Experience overseeing and art directing photo and video shoots a plus Qualifications ? Bachelor's degree required ? Minimum 5-8 years experience ? Expertise Microsoft Office Suite required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with other tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Thankview, Raiser's Edge NXT) a plus, ability to adapt to new digital platforms and programs Req id: 21990
