WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
This External Communications will join the Santander US Communications team reporting to the SVP, External Communications and serve as both a strategist and executor for the US enterprise. The person in this role will be responsible for managing and executing external communications campaigns, including but not limited to national and local media relations, social media content development, thought leadership writing and amplification and executive visibility on behalf of the Santander US brand and cross-business initiatives.
This person brings a multi-stakeholder, business-driven mindset to communications, with the ability to be proactive while also seeing around corners for potential reputational risks. As a subject matter expert within the Communications, this person will possess effective partnership skills with an ability to be collaborative while also continuing to advance the work. She/He will have a combination of experiences and transferrable skills that enable them to bring outside-in thinking to storytelling, to combine long term strategic thinking with an ability to opportunistically participate in news cycles and to blend the art of communications with the science of data-driven measurement and reporting. The role represents equal parts of strategy, creativity, execution, and measurement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Accountable for day-to-day execution of external communications, including but not limited to executive visibility, social media, crisis response, earned media relations & conferences, and measurement.
Manage US-wide communications campaigns while also having the flexibility to take advantage of opportunistic news cycles.
Juggle a variety of communications asks, from reactive incident response to proactive executive visibility and interviewing techniques. Agency experience is a plus.
Regularly collaborate with businesses (e.g., banking, auto lending, real estate, investment banking) and relevant SME partners (IR, Strategy, CSR, Brand Marketing, HR, etc.) to ensure consistency and coordination of all external communications activities.
Create and curate content across multiple external channels, ranging from byline writing and placement to social media and videos/podcasts.
Lead external calendar management across the US region, and quarterly reporting.
Qualifications - External
Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or equivalent field.
8+ years of communications and PR experience.
Strong multi-tasker with the ability to tackle the timely and the strategic simultaneously.
Combination of reactive and proactive media relations experience. Agency experience is a plus.
Banking and/or broader Financial Services knowledge. Public company experience a plus.
Strong writer with track record of creating multi-channel content.
Executive presence and partnership skills with a track-record of leading through both influence and authority.
