State of Massachusetts Communications Director-Office of Senator Cindy Friedman in Boston, Massachusetts

Senator Cindy F. Friedmanis seeking to hire a Communications Director. The Communications Director will join a team consisting of a Chief of Staff and General Counsel, Legislative and Budget Director, and Legislative Aide. Responsibilities include: * Draft press releases, public statements and media advisories. * Serve as the primary point of contact for all media inquiries and provide timely responses to media questions. * Manage the Senator’s social media profile, including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, and promote her work for audience development and to increase visibility. * Manage the Senator’s website and quarterly newsletter. * Draft talking points and public comments, including speaking engagements and floor speeches, in coordination with the policy team. * Work with the Chief of Staff to create a monthly communications and message calendar and event-specific messaging. * Build media lists, monitor the media for coverage of the Senator and topics of interest, and suggest media opportunities. * Draft op-eds in coordination with the Senator, with the goal of producing at least a bi-monthly op-ed. * Perform and send to the team a weekly round-up of Senator news clips and social media posts. * Attend and staff the Senator at press-related events in the district and at the State House. * Provide staff support for legislative and policy research, constituent services, and community events. * Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Political Science or related field. * Experience with media and public relations, including effective use of social media. * Outstanding written and oral communication skills. * Ability to produce quality work under pressure and in an extremely fast-paced environment. * Capacity to think critically and work both independently and as part of a team. Preferred qualifications: * Knowledge of the Fourth Middlesex District. * Knowledge of the Massachusetts Legislature and legislative process. * Some experience working in media relations, on political campaigns, on issue campaigns, with advocacy organizations, or in government. * Experience speaking with the media as an on-the-record spokesperson.
