MassMutual Communications Consultant in Boston, Massachusetts
As a Communications Consultant you will consult and influence leaders on effective communication strategies enabling business growth and sales effectiveness. This consultant will deliver creative, engaging, and accurate messaging in order to best meet the business’ needs all while understanding the audience’s preferences for consuming information. They will monitor the communication effectiveness and adjust as needed to ensure the business needs are met. They will also foster a continuous improvement mindset and willingness to experiment and learn. Key characteristics of those who hold this position are: creativity, adaptability, drive, courage, and service-focus. This role will consist of working independently and collaborating in small and large teams. They could support the launch of various marketing programs, insurance and wealth management products, as well as implement regulatory changes.
The MassMutual Field Communication team consults with various senior business leaders, helping them achieve sales growth, change management, and process/system implementations. This role represents various stakeholders, including both field and home-office leaders and reaches a variety of audiences to include: Registered Producers, Brokers, Career Agents, and field-staff. This team is responsible for creating and executing external and internal communication strategic plans, presentations, talking points, and other materials of the highest caliber for various users and in multiple formats. They identify key communication needs through conducting primary research, develop themes and messages, deploy various tactics across a full spectrum of digital and conventional communication channels (e.g., written, spoken, visual, video, social, etc.) and provide insights and recommendations as a result of the plans outcome.
Within our dynamic industry, there is only one critical business need that enables adaptability and growth: effective communications. To meet this need, business leaders rely on their communication consultant to think-critically and position themselves as a business partner first—who then can focus a communication strategy to meet the measurable goals they set to influence. This team works with business partners, including members of the MassMutual Financial Advisor leadership teams to identify communication needs and develop strategies and materials to implement effective communication solutions. It serves as a key internal communication contact for the business, providing counsel and ensuring consistency and quality of communications. It contributes to the planning and management of key business meetings and special events, including preparation of agendas, talking points and presentations. It effectively collaborates with communication counterparts in other areas of the business (MM International, Customer Experience, Technology, HR, Strategic, Corporate, etc.) on integrated communications plans as required. It develops clear and concise written communications for a variety of internal audiences and platforms, including the company intranet and participates on cross-business project teams as needed/required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field
5+ years of communications experience
Experience with field-distribution channels like independent brokers, career agents and wholesalers.
Strong writing, editing and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and concisely on a variety of complex business topics.
Ability to interact and influence at all levels of the organization. Demonstrated ability to develop integrated communication plans that consider the needs of various audiences; work with communication partners (e.g., PR, Field Communications, etc.) as needed.
Commitment to understanding and applying communication best practices and innovative techniques as appropriate.
7+ years of communications experience specific to internal/employee communications
