Omni Hotels Catering Sales Manager in Boston, Massachusetts

Overview

The 1,000 plus roomOmni Boston Hotel at the Seaportis expected to open early 2021 and will be a one-of-a-kind, two-tower, luxury property. The new hotel, located at 450 Summer Street in South Boston’s Seaport District, will feature a signature spa and fitness center, event terrace, elevated pool deck, multiple dining establishments, bar and a variety of retail venues. It will boast more than 100,000 square feet of meeting and event space and feature the largest hotel ballroom in Boston.

Job Description

An amazing opportunity to be a part of the pre-opening of Omni’s next great convention collection hotel. Set to open in 2021, the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport will be a catalyst to the development in the Seaport. The 1,054 room hotel will feature a signature spa and fitness center, event terrace, elevated pool deck, multiple dining establishments, bar and a variety of retail venues. It will boast more than 100,000 square feet of meeting and event space with the largest hotel ballroom in Boston.

The Catering Sales Manager is responsible for soliciting affiliate catering business accounts, entertaining and maintaining relationships with existing accounts to meet and/or exceed food and beverage revenue goals. He/She will also oversee client functions to ensure customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships with all citywide clients and key affiliate clients to ensure the hotel is maximizing revenue opportunities, particularly with banquet food, beverage and room rental revenues. This includes coordinating sales presentations, incentives as appropriate, interfacing with key management at the citywide and affiliate accounts to ensure transparency in all transactions.

  • Monitor room pickup trends relative to other indicators such as pace of registration, competitor’s positioning, etc. Work with Revenue management team on ways we can maximize room revenue with either upgraded room type selling or length of stay promotions when appropriate.

  • Be the resident “expert” on citywide behavior; provide recommendations on room block and meeting space management. Forecast expected results to sales and revenue management leadership.

  • Identify and prospect the key exhibitors and participant groups for all citywide groups. This includes building relationships with housing bureau exhibitor managers and creating tools/promotions to assist exhibit managers in capturing exhibit blocks for our hotels.

  • Be the “BOSSEA” presence on the show floors, interfacing with the client, their attendees, and their exhibitors.

  • Drive marketing strategies designed to optimize pickup and capture affiliate spend, to include implementation of any/all group marketing initiatives through our sources or through the client’s communications.

  • Renegotiate release of guest rooms and meeting space for re-sales earlier in sales cycle, enabling hotel to capture replacement business with key booking window

  • Monitor and manage electronic and print materials to ensure our hotels are properly and prominently positioned.

  • Work in partnership with our Sales and Account directors to recommend and assist in housing bureau negotiations of key components in contract terms and to ensure clear understanding of viable opportunities to strengthen hotel position.

  • Interface with all internal stakeholders to ensure strategies are aligned (Revenue management, Conference Services, Sales, Group Housing, etc…..)

Qualifications

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.

  • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.

  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Excellent inter-personal and sales related experience.

  • Exceptional organizational and supervisory skills.

  • Knowledge of food and beverage menus, food preparation and presentation.

  • Ability to act independently with minimal or no supervision.

  • Ability to communicate customer needs and resolve complaints independently.

  • Sales ability and skill in both oral and written form.

  • Must possess basic computational ability.

  • Must possess computer skills, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel and Delphi.

  • Ability to establish and master goals.

Physical Demands

  • Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems.

  • Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 5 hours per day. Walking and standing are required the rest of the working day. This includes traveling to and from meetings. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task.

  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously.

  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the hotel on a timely basis.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.

  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.

  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.

  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.

  • Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, 10-key adding machine, electric typewriter, multi-line touch tone phone, filing cabinets, FAX machines, photocopiers, dolly and other office equipment as needed.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

College or equivalent education required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Experience

Past catering/conference service/sales experience preferred.

CMP Certification Preferred
