Your Opportunity

As Business Center Practice Leader (BCPL) you are the senior leader responsible for securing and delivering excellent work with our Community Development (CD) clients. Our nationally recognized CD team in Boston engages with clients and communities to collaboratively imagine, plan and design vibrant resilient places and connect those places and people together.

Leading a team of 50 staff, you will lead our practice in the Boston area, supporting our urban and mobility planners, site civil engineers and landscape architects to deliver vital and award-winning work. You will cross sell with Stantec’s multi-disciplinary practices and you will offer our Clients cutting edge innovative sustainable solutions. Supported by our experienced practitioners and our proposal development staff, you will lead growth of our practice, improve Stantec’s market position and manage delivery of innovative, exceptional quality solutions to communities around Boston and the country.

Your Key Responsibilities

Business Development is the core of this role and your main focus will be to:

  • Take overall responsibility for the team winning approximately $10M of impactful consulting work that motivates our teams and builds a strong sustainable business.

  • Set and implement our local strategy in conjunction with operations leaders to achieve our sales targets through targeted, efficient marketing and business development.

  • Plan and oversee all aspects of business development locally including setting targets and coaching other team members to achieve those targets.

  • Lead growth through holding principals and other business developers accountable to expand our client base and win repeat work.

  • Build solid, personal relationships with key clients both existing and new.

  • Refine and oversee marketing and business development processes including a go/no go process evaluating opportunities, proposal budget setting, and proposal development.

  • Increase Stantec brand visibility by telling our community focused and innovation story.

  • Manage marketing and business development budgets.

People and Business Leadership is another important element, you will be the most senior team member locally and need to lead and manage the group to achieve identified goals:

  • Lead and develop a team of engaged and collaborative seller doers, setting expectations for team performance.

  • Identify, inspire, motivate and retain our staff and oversee deliberate professional growth.

  • Lead team through change processes to drive team development and improvement.

  • Represent and lead with others through Stantec locally and globally.

  • Strengthen our culture of safety, ethics, integrity and a customer and community service.

  • Understand and contribute to Stantec’s financial sustainability, supporting operations leadership with budget setting and driving business efficiency.

Project Engagement is fundamental to Stantec DNA. Our highest purpose is working for clients and communities and you will directly engage to serve them and provide an example to your staff.

  • Lead delivery of significant projects with approximately 40% of your time.

  • Champion and drive our use of best practice, innovation and technology.

  • Oversee risk management related to pursuits and projects including reviewing proposals and work products before issuance.

  • Drive workshare within and outside the local group to ensure all of Stantec’s resources are available to our clients and communities.

Qualifications

Qualifications: What YOU will need to succeed?

You will lead as we engage with our clients and communities to discover their needs, market our services to them and deliver that work excellently.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least of 15 years of relevant experience with 20 years preferred.

  • Professional registration in a related field.

  • Success leading teams of at least 20 professional staff and demonstrating team building, communication coaching and management skills.

  • A strong, relevant network in the Boston area is preferred.

  • A deep, practical knowledge of marketing and sales management techniques is expected.

  • Experience delivering both large and small projects including engaging on multiple efforts at one time.

  • Excellent financial and business management skills

  • Clear and organized communication and ability to execute in a professional environment

Key Performance Indicators for the position include, sales, value of identified pursuits, business growth, return on investment in marketing, safety targets and personal utilization. We will discuss more details of the role as we engage with you.
